Expect an updated re-print of this any day now,,they are really reaching for anything to keep people from checking out marijuana.
Is it just me or are more people you know that don’t cannabis becoming inquisitive about marijuana?

We may not be able to change a bought and paid for politicians mind,,but perhaps we can change the sheep’s mind.
right on the money clay — it ain’t about convincing politicians (yet). however, we’ll get farther, faster if we don’t regard our fellow citizens as “sheep” — it’s important to remember that they have been brainwashed for their entire lives.
our job is to educate them, not denigrate them.
I try,and the second greatest feeling to have is when you see someone start to understand that what you and others have been telling them for years.
Change happens in other ways that can be good. Changes in the economy have produced pending law enforcement budget-cuts in California that include layoffs of undercover drug cops:

These are those chickens roosting that the Kap’n is always clucking about.
I guess the genius who runs this website forgot that the above-referenced NYT clipping was prominently displayed in the 1999 documentary “Emperor of Hemp.” Maybe he should have paid more attention when he (allegedly) watched it.
So? It also appeared in the New York Times, says so right there…what’s yer point? Oh, you thought it was ORIGINAL? Huh…an original, unpublished, newspaper story, published in 1927…how’s that work?
*sounds of derisive laughter*
*gasp* Pete, dude, how dare you show us something funny that was once shown somewhere else? I’m totally not reading your website anymore.
Keep eating the kippered herrings!
mmmm….Kippers
Yes ….into this rather complex world of Kippers, and counter Kippers, stepped a being of great ingenuity, daring, resourcefulness, and ability to fornicate like the Duke of Accrington. Who’s identity shall surely be reviled (not a typo) at some later date. — Sound of bagpipes being slowly speeded up.
While a foul wind rises from the southern wastes and clouds gather over where ever it is they gather, for tea or parlor games…and Kippers.
and howz yer wwwebsite coming along Jeff? Maintaining a voluminous (and civil) comment section? Drawing more views than the ONDCP? Don’t be shy… if you can knock Pete, we’ll let you crow a bit. Let’s see what you got Jeffie…

The sad part about this is, read almost any early 1900’s paper and you will see similar stories about all kinds of awful things that happen to people who take … insert unkind substance to puritanical thinking here …
Watch as the laws get passed they start talking about the “seedy drug dealer” who has replaced the “upstanding pharmacist” becasue of the law, and then, the editor asks for tougher laws against the drug dealers. Even then, the zealots couldn’t see the forest for the trees.
.
.
Well back then they could legitimately plead ignorance. It’s amazing that there are still people today who harbor the fantasy that draconian laws can make it go away.
That’s why it’s for the money.
Al Capone and Watergate were red herrings to divert the countries attention from the Fascist acts of eliminating competition. Booze/Ethanol or Ganja//Hemp.
I might be inclined to excuse ignorance. But to fail to use native intelligence?
It’s too convenient to excuse what happened back then as a kind of societal naivete. But even then there were voices that spoke out against those laws, and for the exact reason they deserved to be criticized.
Then, as today, those voices of reason were drowned out by the bellowing of racist bigots, the ravings of deluded preachers and unctuous, officious, BS’ing bureaucrats in cahoots with crooked industrialists.
Only when it becomes clear to the dimmest bulb in society’s box that the experiment has not only failed but failed badly, with blood on the pavement and corruption at the highest levels, that those voices are ever listened to. Then we fix the problem…that never should have had to be fixed because we never had a problem to begin with.
We Americans are exactly as Churchill described us:
“You can always count on Americans to do the right thing – after they’ve tried everything else.â€
In this case, the ‘right thing’ was not to do ANYTHING. Not to have prohibition of any psychoactive substance, regardless of any high-sounding rationalizations.
Professor Whitebread’s US always forget that the THEM are us, and after the smoke clears, and people dig out from the rubble of a failed social policy, the US looks in the mirror and sees THEM. But always only after Pandora’s box is forcibly blasted open by idiots…
.
.
I wasn’t offering them a pass because of their ignorance. I was attempting to denigrate today’s crop of Know Nothings for being even bigger idiots than the totally ignorant.
Sorry for the communication breakdown.
My apologies, as well. The intent wasn’t to be critical of you, but to illustrate a point.
Look around this ‘place’. The people you usually ‘see’ here are, IMHO, on the far right of the intelligence bell curve. They didn’t have to cut themselves to know that knives are sharp…especially when they are able to learn from fools who have yet to inculcate that lesson, despite their own hands being lacerated again and again. It’s that latter group that I despair of.
Almost invariably, such people seek out positions of power so that, in a perverse twist on the Peter Principle, they can rise to a level where their zealotry, ignorance and downright stupidity affect the greatest number of people possible, spreading misery everywhere, ‘for our own good’, of course.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t ‘fix’ it!” I contend that for the first 138 years of the Republic, it wasn’t broke. Certainly not perfect, but not broke. But prohibs regardless of era simply just wouldn’t listen to reason, thought something needed ‘fixing’, and dynamited Pandora’s Box. And they bear full responsibility for the screamingly obvious course of action that has followed every attempt through history to ban a psychotropic, even one as weak as caffeine.
Santayana was right; we’ve been doomed to repeat history because of the American tendency to discount history’s lessons. Eventually, though, the ones who were the voices in the wilderness warning against ideological (and spiritual!) hubris, were the ones that were finally listened to…usually long past the point where the hubris leads to a fall.
heh… Kap, you nailed it and I think I’ve named it…
… the latter of those you speak? They operate under The Pecker Principle… (“pecker” being far more socially acceptable than “dickhead” – which is a far more accurate term)
Hmmm… that methinks is highly usable phraseology. “The Pecker Principle”… has a definite ring to it. Thanks Kap!
And change this: affect the greatest number of people possible to this : affect the greatest harm, to the greatest number of people possible
Totally for the diversion.
At the end of the day prohibition is about profits.
It’s the moneysluts always behind the scenes.
Cashing in on the self appointed moralists.
What the public witnesses has nothing to do with it.
Might as well worry about the message to the kids.
Then send the same kids to die protecting Oil.
The message to the kids is, your parents are naive.
Ignorance is taught and nurtured to fullfill the bottom line.
Koch’s private prisons or Rockefellers crude oil gasoline.
Duponts synthetic fibers or Nixon behind the red herring of Watergate.
Moralists or Religionists have no power except persuasion.
The 21st Amendment didn’t leave our country sober,
just without farmers ability to distill their own tractor and heating fuel.
Watergate was a two bit break in of no significance,
except it brought us the CSA with no objections. But it takes two sides to fight.
Both getting paid. Winning the drug war is for losers. No profit in that.
The Feds own Commerce and until the CSA is gone, pot will be illegal to sell.
Al Capone and Watergate were red herrings to divert the countries attention from the Fascist acts of eliminating competition. Booze/Ethanol or Ganja//Hemp.
Skeptic finds he now agrees global warming is real
A prominent physicist and skeptic of global warming spent two years trying to find out if mainstream climate scientists were wrong. In the end, he determined they were right: Temperatures really are rising rapidly.
Now wait, you mean the Koch’s and Booshes selling fossil fools may have lied just to keep selling it? In spite of the devastation, diseases and death. Are they saying we could be growing our own fuel instead of sending kids to die in deserts protecting oil? How gullible are the voters believing these moneysluts, knowing they have vested interest in lying? Chumps! Oh the fact that corporations and their puppet politicians would lie is giving me the vapors. Shock and Awe!

Yeah, yeah, anything negative that happens anywhere in the general vicinity of cannabis is caused by the cannabis. The Guatemalan insanity peppers that family was growing in the garden next to the reefer had nothing whatever to do with their insanity.

Maybe it was Okra? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/766790/posts 😀
Okra. (Shudders) Ick.
Takes a redneck or southerner to cook Okra right Capt. I hated it before moving to Florida. If you stir fry it quickly its crisp and tasty. More than a couple minutes it’s like eating snails. All slimy. I still don’t go out of my way to find it though…
This sounds more like Datura except they didn’t mention temporary blindness. Loco weed?
I have heard of certain fertilizers contaminating the pot. Dylan was said to have gotten sick from bat guano he used. Either from not wearing gloves gardening or from inhaling the spores. Never heard of it in the smoke. Rare. Never had it happen to me.
Histoplasmosis
(Dylan was) diagnosed has having contracted Histoplasmosis, which is a fungal infection very occasionally the infection is transmitted through undercooked meats such as lamb or beef, But more commonly is transmitted by in inhalation of fungal spores which grow in soil contaminated by certain bird and bat droppings.
Hemp ‘Eats’ Chernobyl Waste
Phytoremediation can be used to remove radioactive elements from soil and water at former weapons producing facilaties.
If cannabis can remove harmful chemicals, described to me as the old school science experiment of putting celery into colored water. As it makes its way into the celery the dye shows up. If these leaves were contaminated… maybe?
Why did they wait 10 years to outlaw it after this story broke?
Little Kerli: “See, Ma? That’s why I’m afraid to eat Brussel sprouts! Might really be that merry-ju-wahna in disguise!”
Ma: “Cut it out! (Scoooooop. Plop!) Here’s an extra helping for bitchin’!”
Maybe that’s why he hates green leafy things…
Hey has anybody ever seen the kid’s show “Lazy Town”? Man, oh MAN, that was one stoned bunch of Icelanders that came up with that one.
Nothing to do? wanna tweak you brain? Three BT’s and turn that one on…don’t even bother with the sound, start some Pink Floyd instead. You may never come back….
Regular show and adventure time are my current favorite blatant stoner-produced cartoons right now
They probably mixed in Datura with the green.
You Live, You Learn.
Datura or some serious psylocybe, and I do mean serious…
so… that would be… seriousybin?
Next they’ll be claiming that marijuana causes schizophrenia…wait…1927 was that? Ummmmm…never mind.
Read an article yesterday about some kid dying from smoking synthetic weed. Turns out the kid was smoking it out of a plastic container and burned his lungs.
gawd yeah… don’t educate them kids, let them win Darwin Awards… Crikey mates!
No country, kingdom or regime in history has made a prohibition law work,,from the Russian Peter the Great’s prohibiting coffee when he discovered that he couldn’t start his day without it,till our own drug prohibition.
Every country that ever enacted a prohibition has recalled it after spending large sums of money trying to enforce it and failing or it was replaced by the new government that took over after the idiots that enacted it were removed.
It may be the latter for our country. So sad.
Shit, even god almighty couldn’t make prohibition work and he only had two people to police. Hey, doesn’t that disprove the omnipotence thing? All powerful my ass.
Look what I found behind the couch!

What We Have to Say About Legalizing Marijuana
By: Gil Kerlikowske
https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/response/what-we-have-say-about-legalizing-marijuana
oh… like thanks-a-lot clay! I just barfed on my qwerty. omd… really Gil?!?!
I was a work at home dad for the first two years of my kids’ lives and changed thousands (millions?) of diapers. Not once – not once Gil – did I scoop the crap out of a diaper, put it on a tortilla and try to call it a tostada. But you did Gil… you just shit on us and tried to pass it off as an intelligent and understanding response when all it is is recycled crap!
There is an old curse Gil that comes from folks who had no profanity in their language… may you lose that which you love, over and over and over…
And then they drop this in the news cycle dead zone, friday after 5…
Yeah, well, look for a burning bag on your porch Monday Gil… make sure you stomp it out, dead out. Even Smokey the Bear smokes herb Gil, that’s why we call him Smokey. Besides he has his medical card… back pain (from hauling irrigation line into the woods all these years is my guess) and arthritis I believe…
The stars are aligning against you Gil. The Office of No Drug Control Policy days are limited, the budget axe will settle this faster than trying to communicate withe likes of you sir.
.
.
Gil could go down in history as a hero if he’d just decide that a law requiring people to lie is wrong and to start telling the truth. If he sticks with the company line he’s just another Herbert that no one will remember 500 months from now except for a few geek historians.
Can somebody remind Gil that the human race decided at Nuremburg in the late 1940s that following orders and/or the law doesn’t make those actions right? No I’m not trying to say that fibbing about recreational pot rises to the level of a crime against humanity. The lies about medicinal cannabis most certainly do. If it turns out that cannabis holds the cure for cancer those people will have outdone Messrs Stalin, Hitler, and Caligula by stonewalling the scientific investigation of cannabis for a few decades.
GHAAAAA! I read the first two sentences and smacked myself in the forehead so hard I went cross eyed and read it twice…..
“What We Have to Say About Legalizing Marijuana
By: Gil Kerlikowske
When the President took office, he directed all of his policymakers to develop policies based on science and research, not ideology or politics. So our concern about marijuana is based on what the science tells us about the drug’s effects”
Long string of profanity followed by mumbling and an eye twitch that won’t go away for two days…..
The title and byline really say it all on that one
as suspected by many,,Obomba had the drug czar answer all marijuana questions with his propaganda.
One wonders….this was bound to happen, and the response is going to be outrage. Ya figger he wants to be a lame one termer?
Maybe Bush is paying him to be worse than he was, you know, to take the heat off of him as far as history goes? I can see the textbooks of the future
“George Bush was a congenitally stupid rube, who was widely regarded at the time to be the worst President ever. We now know he was just a puppet to the neocons who destroyed the economy in the early twenty-first. Obama was actually the worst President in history because he emptied the treasury to help maintain the neocon/neoliberal corruption for at least another decade. Without Obama’s doubling down on the police state and turning all remaining public money over to the criminal bankers, the system would have collapsed much sooner”
Yes dark,it looks like we will have to wait until our economy fails and the corporations money isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on before we get our government back.
Sorry allan,,but I thought it would be better if I told you before you lost your breakfast over it in a news article in the am.
What, it’s better we don’t sleep and spend the night pacing up and down with our fists clenched and our shoulders up around our ears?
take 3 bong hits (the last one a bit too big) and see me in the morning.
… and yeah I feel ya. I’m starting another Dear President Obama letter… the last one I did for Tim and Bonnie King at Salem-News.com was quite popular…
By the way… I want everybody… all you stoners and friends of stoners to join – heck even those who hate pot prolly hate Obama too so they can join – the “Stoners NO vote for Obama in 2012” movement. If we have clout, let’s wield it. If we don’t we can enjoy the doing of it… Boycott Obama in 2012. Vote for Johnson or Paul or Mickey Mouse or Jack Herer. And even if, come election time, that you do vote for Obama, up until that day you mark your ballot, let him hear the voice of “I won’t vote for Obama.”
Serious… let’s see if – just for one election cycle – we can be an organized herd of cats.
“…spend the night pacing up and down with our fists clenched and our shoulders up around our ears?”
That reminds me about the time when Popeye was reunited with his Pappy who was being held prisoner on ONDCP Island. The text quoted above sure does seem to describe that island’s indigenous people.

Two bong hits down and no relief.
And I think we should go for no incumbents, just taking Obama out isn’t enough.

Careful, I just cleaned the pipe.
doing my own no-name sinse,,,it ain’t lemon kush but it ain’t brick either.
Elsewhere on the whitehouse.gov site there’s a lot of references to obama’s jobs bill. While destroying jobs in the medical cannabis industry, he is in fact creating lots of jobs for cartels, big pharma, alcohol manufacturers and the various industries associated with prohibition such as private prisons and law. No doubt for the government bean counters this equals success.
.
.
Say, is it too late to start another one of those White House petitions? How many signatures do you think a petition asking Messrs, Obama and Biden to step aside for the good of the country would rate?
Perhaps someone has already thought of this idea. If so, please disregard.
Just in case anyone thinks the text above sounds vaguely familiar I did dust off one of the moldy old forgotten documents in the governmental archives and adapted it for this suggestion. We don’t have to use the wording above, it’s just for purposes of illustration. I just kind of like the way they wrote things in ancient times.
Am I a day late and a dollar short? If not it sure sounds like clean, wholesome fun to this correspondent.
