Excellent piece on Al Jazeera
Referenced in that piece is an important new documentary: “Breaking the Taboo” — which opened last week in Brazil and was also shown at the Global Commission press conference last week. It was filmed in eight countries and has been getting a lot of publicity in Brazil, but I hope that it’ll make its way here as well.

If you can’t control drug use in a maximum security prison, how can you control drugs in a free society? – Anthony Papa
“There are a lot of things that I would have done differently. I think that my opposition to needle exchange and medical Marijuana when I was president, both were wrong.”
“To think of it as society’s war is a little bit misleading, as if there were a military solution. And you know I have experience with this including personal experience I had a brother who was addicted to cocaine, so I know allot about this”
“Well, obviously, if the expected result was that we are have to eliminate serious drug use in America and eliminate the narcotraffic networks, it hasn’t worked” – President Bill Clinton
“There is a clear proof in our country of a racial discrimination in laws that apply to criminalizing the use of narcotics” – President Jimmy Carter
Here’s an important message regarding ending the War on Drugs:
fwiw, KCET, the public TV station in L.A, broadcasts Al Jazeera.
Bill Clinton can go eff himself. He signed most of the horrific omnibus crime bills that have hundreds of thousands languishing in prison today for non-violent crimes.
The War on Drugs failed Billions of dollars ago! This money could have been used for outreach programs to clean up the bad end of drug abuse by providing free HIV testing, free rehab, and clean needles. Harmless drugs like marijuana could be legalized to help boost our damaged economy. Cannabis can provide hemp for countless natural recourses and the tax revenue from sales alone would pull every state in our country out of the red! Vote Teapot, PASS IT, and legalize it. Voice you opinion with the movement and check out my pro-cannabis art at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/vote-teapot-2011.html
Re Ben
Yes, Clinton signed in the republican sponsored Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (“IIRIRA 96”) that, among other things, removed the possibility of judicial review for any immigrant with a drug conviction. This means an automatic lifetime ban with no appeal for would-be immigrants, including those married to a US citizen, who have even the most minor possession convictions. However, on his last day in office Clinton commuted the 15 year sentence of big time cocaine smuggler Carlos Vignali after his father had made substantial financial contributions to Clinton’s campaigns.
There are a lot of prohibitionists on this comment thread waiting patiently for our kind attention

“Any rational person changes his mind when confronted with new evidence”.
Unfortunately, we don’t live in a rational world and “leaders” do not think rationally nor are they looking at the evidence, they are ignoring it.
…….
CNN has been running a story about armored vehicles the Mexican cartel now have.
Both videos not bad especially like (If you can’t control drug use in a maximum security prison, how can you control drugs in a free society Anthony Papa said.
Something strange happened in the DEAD ZONE Utah state I live in a powerful politician softened his stance a little on Marijuana.
Our attorney General recently went through stage 4 bout of cancer had radiation and chemo I believe anyway he was very sick from it.
He now says he understands why folks use Medical-marijuana to help with symptoms he says he was offered it when ill,but did not partake but is sympathetic now, Yeah call me sarcastic Politicians lie of course it against law maybe he did try it and now gets it YOU FUCKING THINK. who knows anyway he is kinda open to medical marijuana but knows that legislature would have to take it up.
He said he had plan but was vague, right look don’t look for anything happening in this state in near future it was shocking enough for him to even say this much.
Oh a member of legislature already said it may happen in other states but not in Utah cause it sends wrong message to children, well BLOODY HELL SIR my message to him the Attorney general was talking about compassion for folks in horrible pain and nausea like he went through and others.
Its about spending quality time with your family when your ill instead of asleep or vomiting your guts out with a chronic possibly terminal illness I’m sorry but these people are brain dead.

Pete, you should check out the July issue of Reason, it’s full of great articles that slam the drug war.
“To think of it as society’s war is a little bit misleading, as if there were a military solution. And you know I have experience with this including personal experience I had a brother who was addicted to cocaine, so I know allot about this.”
Strike: “….I had a brother who was addicted to cocaine, so I know allot about this.”
and replace with: “…I put a record number of Americans in jail for Marijuana, so I know a
lot about this.”
Clinton is an ass. He is the worst hypocritical scumbag who has ever walked the earth…oh wait, there’s his wife…
The drug war was lost on its first day of battle. Additional drug war losses have accumulated since then. Convincing prohibitionists of the reality of their embarrassing record of total screw-ups means turning their petty little world upside down.
So how do we accomplish that? A demand for transparency may be one way.
The drug war creates a shadow government within a shadow government, one with its own set of survival rules. Missing from the prohibitionists’ insidious little rulebook is transparency, a function otherwise guaranteed to expose the illegitimacy of something like prohibition and its parasitic profiteers. No surprise that government transparency is a big taboo in prohibitionist tribal circles.
A highly-visible, as yet unassailed transparency bottleneck is the Drug Czar’s License to Lie. This particular federal legal code has a symbolic value that makes it a nearly perfect drug war target, one that’s certainly vulnerable to the anti-prohibitionist forces of good. The Czar’s official status as a professional liar should be designated the Bismarck of the drug war. Suggested war cry: Sink the License to Lie!
A movement-wide focus on the fibber-factor in drug enforcement would concentrate vast public attention on this most curious and, indeed, irrational foundation underlying the crumbling walls of drug enforcement. A wide audience will definitely appreciate the story because it’s bizarre for a legal statute to incorporate a fibber-factor, way too weird for most people’s weird-o-meter.
But your whole message is weak, and you lack little evidence to support your justification. Why would you dare the audasitiy to say we should just give up?
Let me tell you a little story ,about our great country the United States of America.
Founded upon freedoms you’ve never heard of.
freedom of speech…freedom of religion…..freedom
to puruse happiness,it all it’s fine glory.the freedom
not to be offended.. the rights of law enforcement to help protect us.
How dare you tell me to give up.You don’t have to keep rubbing in my face okay.We know damn well it’s a failure.
It will never get rid of all the drugs or users.Yeah i know but I dont care.they kill kids so they should remain illegal.
My child knew this one kid,who happened to hear about this one other kid,by his friend.
It’s that apperentally Casey Athoney got high before she…
commited those vile acts… she was high on marijuana….Harmless???? I don’t know. I don’t care.
I Just hate drugs being around,i dont care if some are safe.they need to be illegal cause My older brother did drugs when we were growing up,we both learned the same things about drugs and how bad they are.drugs were for losers and wasted lives. I’ve remained (XXX)straight edge.we my brother smoke pot,and had so many friends,he was the cool kid in town.everyone looked at him like WOW,it angered me so much cause. everyone picked on me and called me a tattle tale, crybabie, lier. MY mother even smacked me screaming JOHNNY I HATE you.she favored my older brother tommy more,it pissed me off,and later down the road my older brother does more drugs and just get super rich, while i just sat around bitterly about his success while doing drugs and my godly manner,AGGGHH it IRKED ME EVERS!! though i saw a unicorn over a rainbow.I had my friend Michelle, bust him for selling paraphinela on the internet.sure he wasnt involved but i had to show everyone drugs are not cool and are for losers, for i too am reaching for success. that success is to make the world a drug free place..& dispose of all the cool people. for i’m JOHN B Malters
america’s greatest prohibitionist
sorry bad satire and grammer lol

Dammit Mitch you made me cry. If you hadn’t put up the disclaimer I would have thought your post was serious. It’s going to be a long time before I get over the grief I feel for the deaths of the arts of sarcasm and parody at the hands of the Know Nothing prohibitionist nitwits.
“I had a swell time in the white house sticking cigars up some bitch’s back passage while Hilary was busy McDougaling about down south, so I know a lot about this!”
.
.
The word “losing” in the headline suggests that there’s still a possibility of success.
Well Mr. Bill knew Alice B Toklas when he was in college so he can’t be all bad.
No, he can be all bad. Speculation has it Bill was the class snitch. I’ve seen a couple of people recently in the news who knew Bill wondering this aloud. Sorry, no time to run and look for the link, and it’s second hand at best, so doesn’t seem worth the trouble anyway.
I trust Clinton. I trust him to be a deceitful conniving SOB.
.
.
The most trustworthy person I’ve ever known was an extreme, pathological liar. I knew that I could trust anything coming out of his mouth to be a bald faced lie.
“From time to time, I say that the suppression of medical marijuana is murder. This is not quite correct. It is actually mass murder. It has caused the deaths of countless thousands of people. This article is another bit of evidence of the magnitude of the crime.”

“. . . unfortunately, we can’t control the actions of everyone.”
~ Bill Clinton, April 20, 1993
“When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans, it was assumed that the Americans who had that freedom would use it responsibly . . . [However, now] there’s a lot of irresponsibility. And so a lot of people say there’s too much freedom. When personal freedom’s being abused, you have to move to limit it.”

Clinton Asks Supreme Court To Overturn MMJ Ruling
Proven : Cannabis is a safe medicine by Ian Williams Goddard
CANNABIS DOES NOT CAUSE CANCER
BOSTON, Jan. 30, 1997 (UPI) –
The U.S. federal government has failed to make public its own 1994 study that undercuts its position that marijuana is carcinogenic – a $2 million study by the National Toxicology Program. The program’s deputy director, John Bucher, says the study “found absolutely no evidence of cancer.” In fact, animals that received THC had fewer cancers. Bucher denies his agency had been pressured to shelve the report, saying the delay in making it public was due to a personnel shortage.
The Boston Globe reported Thursday (1-30-97) that the study indicates not only that the main ingredient in marijuana, THC, does not cause cancer, but also that it may even protect against malignancies, laboratory tests on animals show.
The report comes on the heels of an editorial in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine that favors the controlled medical use of marijuana, and calls current federal policy “misguided, heavy-handed and inhumane.”
The Clinton administration has said that doctors prescribing marijuana could be prosecuted for a federal crime.
Marijuana has been reported to ease the pain, nausea and vomiting in advanced stages of cancer, AIDS and other serious illnesses, but the federal government claims other treatments have been deemed safer than what it calls “a psychoactive, burning carcinogen.”
However, The Boston Globe says the government’s claim appears to be undercut by its own $2 million study.
Al Capone and Watergate were red herrings to divert the countries attention from the Fascist acts of eliminating competition. Booze/Ethanol or Ganja//Hemp.
I agree whole-heartedly with ”drug policy” here in the UK as we edge ever closer to the USA in regards to our NHS/Welfare State/and our Prison Estate(which I know much much more ABOUT than your average ”Joe”. It now looks like Rupert Murdoch is still going to buy BSkyB even though the Murdoch Empire(Fox News to name just one propaganda machine he owns in the USA—-wasn’t it Fox News that called the result in favour of ”DUBYA”– A MODERN DAY COUPE WITH NO OBJECTION FROM THE DUMBED DOWN NATION)should be dismantled and Murdoch, his son James & Uk PM–David Cameron should now be facing long prison sentences for perjery/conspiracy. The list is endless and I am disgusted at UK/USA(Iraq & Afghanistan)& now France for thier involvement in Lybia.
Enough said !
Any thoughtS anyone please I need enlightening and consructive criticism if I have IT wrong here.
