Illinois Hemp

Illinois keeps trying to do the right thing. They’ve gotten close on medical marijuana a couple of times in the legislature, but couldn’t quite close the deal (there’s no referendum process in Illinois).

Yesterday, the House Agriculture and Conservation committee passed the Illinois Industrial Hemp Act 11-2. Next, it goes to the full house. (Hemp is defined in the bill as having a THC content below 0.3%)

LOL good luck ! Hope they pass it just for the economic boost and many uses for it,but you know the cops will say” we can tell the difference between smokable cannabis and industrial hemp .”

I’ll help ya…Industrial hemp is VERY SKINNY and grows about 14 ft tall, smokable cannabis ten foot tall if grown properly and very fat like a big hedge or small tree… with LOTS of buds…you cant miss it…..and no you cant grow smokable cannabis in a hemp feild and have a good bud..it will pollinate with the industrial hemp and not be good.

Now if Im wrong or missed some facts…Im sure my fellow reformers will fill us in.

    Guys/gals? Any words of wisdom?

Here’s some additional info on THC degradation due to cross pollination:

“We know, then, that the first generation has been degraded by half. If that “mixed-blood” seed is grown hidden again among hemp plants that will again provide the pollen, then the next generation will again lose by half, gradually by this means (it’s called a “backcross” by plant breeders) converging toward the hemp type. But it is unlikely it would get that far as the material would be undesirable after the first contamination.

This is why marijuana growers want to stay away from hemp.”

I think the true problem is that it’s just too damn easy to confuse police oaficers. It seems they’re singularly simple minded. I guess that goes with the territory though. Who else would take a job dealing with genuine assholes at least 2/3 of your work week, and the other 1/3 writing about their encounters with said assholes? Oh yeah, for less than $40k as a starting salary? dumb de dumb dumb.

Even if they do pass it nobdy will dare grow it for fear of the feds. Didn’t one of the Dakotas already pass a hemp farming bill?

It is ironic that feral hemp from WWII still grows nearly everywhere in Illinois. I lived in Quincy for a while when I was a teenager, and I remember the stuff…you could smoke it all day long and it would only give you a splitting headache. But creekbeds and ditches where I lived and up by Macomb were full of it.

Haven’t you seen the videos of Indiana police “eradicating” feral hemp and airlifting it out in a big basket dangling from a helicopter. You could see the trail of seeds behind the helicopter not unlike the wake of a motor boat. Oh well, I couldn’t find it on youtube. But I’ve got no doubt that these guys know they’re sowing next years overtime.

Still is if you know where to look,Iowa ,Missouri side of the river is the same way. Tons of it was grow on both sides of the muddy miss.

  4. joe says:

Hemp produces 10X the yield of ethanol than corn making it an excellent cash crop on a large scale. Plus the hemp fiber an textile new industries. These would go along way to solving the illinois state deficet produces

…and some very large companies/wealthy people have 10s & 10s (hundreds?) of billions of dollars invested in corn to ethanol production infrastructure who would see that investment become worthless practically overnight if hemp to fuel were allowed.

Including but probably not limited too:

Just this one application alone would slice a couple of percent off of GDP. GDP is how upper level politicians keep score.

Less revenue means less income tax collected. Lower value means less sales tax collected.

The price of corn would fall off of a cliff. Lots of farmers would go teats up. Since there aren’t many farms that don’t borrow all or a large % of their seed money the banksters will take a hit as well. Pa Kettle might run his tractor into the Reflecting Pool and cause a traffic jam. Do you have a clue how bad traffic is in DC Metro area without farmers fucking it up worse?

Lower value crop means lower crop insurance premiums. Considering how hard it is to fuck up a crop of hemp the premiums may end up being dirt on the dollar compared to corn.

Should I make a list of the monied interests who take a financial bath if hemp replaces cotton?

Frankly I think we need to drop the hemp thing, perhaps even going as far as agreeing to keep hemp farming illegal in the US if they give us recreational and medical.

Fuckem all Duncan..when these greedy bastards get the shit kicked out of them in finacial terms and things rebound a bit, the lower prices for everything is a boon for the average joe. Its these greedy fucks at the top that has this country in strangle hold in the first place. This is something that needs to happen.

Sorry for the outburst but thats just too bad for them. Im sick and tired of seeing a few make life hell for the many. Down with their greedy control…and they wont agree to give us rec and medical cause they know damned well hemp WILL follow.

This damned corn/ethanol thing, seems to me, to be a way for the power mongers to control people and make money from their suffering. Why the hell would any thinking person want to use food crop for fuel when they know damned well it wil cause starvation and increased prices …its insane…its wrong.

      • darkcycle says:

Except we NEED hemp, for all of these purposes. Plus, Duncan, you missed that Hemp needs next to no fertilized and has no significant pests. Also threatening to money interests. But as petroleum products get more expensive, so will petroleum-based fertilizers and pesticides. Meaning alot of these products like corn and cotton will get more expensive to produce. As the Petroleum age winds down (and it IS winding down) our entire model of agriculture will change- it will have to. So will the crops we’re able to grow. Monsanto isn’t as threatening as they seem, because they have a business model based on things always remaining the way they are. And Things are changing fast. Look seroiusly at the rush to Organic systems…it isn’t just about healthier tomato’s, if that’s what you thought.
Hemp, because of it’s low fetilizer needs and the multiple needs it can meet will be essential to our very survival.
A traffic Jam is temporary. And Pa Kettle’s Tractor is easy to remove from a pond. When people need food and fuel and fibre from the same plant, they turn to Hemp.

  5. DdC says:

Corn is sabotage crop. Knowing its a world staple food and driving the cost up for fuel would only cause protest. Then back to the fossil fools drawing board. Same as merdinol or the other scores of lies and decete for our protection and their coincidental monopoly and profit.

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country… Corporations have bee enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”
