Yes, the National Institute on Drug Abuse is hosting Drug Facts Week, November 8-14, which is somewhat akin to the KKK hosting Black History Month. Their partners in this enterprise are: Discovery, MTV, and Partnership for a Drug Free America, plus federal, state, and local agencies.
We’ve talked before about NIDA’s lack of interest in the facts.
Tomorrow is Drug Facts Chat Day. But don’t get excited and think that you’ll be allowed to participate in this chat — you have to be an authorized pre-registered school with a special code.
I’m really looking forward to listening to the winners of The MusiCares® and GRAMMY Foundation’s® Teen Substance Abuse Awareness through Music Contest in Collaboration with the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
There will be a minimum of facts and an excess of bovine
scatology.
And nobody actually in possession of the facts need apply.
UGH. I went to their website.
Do I have to submit to a drug test before I enter?
Shatter the Myths – did anyone else notice that at the top of their web site?
And Discovery? What the? That raised my eyebrows.

Wow. Sounds like DARE + American Idol.
And I thought that the 80s was bad.

I don’t go to zoos, as I believe that wild animals should be left in their natural state – unless they are in danger of extinction and require preservation. Likewise, I don’t go to circuses, as I can’t help but feel those animals are being abused in order to get them to perform.
But for (ostensibly intelligent) humans to willingly act like trained circus animals, devalue their own intellectual capacities and ‘sing’` (bleat) on command anti-drug slogans, well, that’s even more objectionable. I’ll pass, thanks.
Omygawdguyzy! According to the super nifty IQ test they gots on there, the THC affects our brains. That’s why you’re hungry when you smoke, why you might get sleepy. IT AFFECTS YOUR BRAIN! IT AFFECTS IT!!!1!
Mind you, so does sex. I get sleepy after sex and I get the munchies. OMG, sex affects my brain as well. I’m scared now.
Just the FAQs: http://www.drugabuse.gov/chat/chatfaqs308.html
No but they make you have an MRI to prove that you don’t have a functioning brain in your head. There is a pre-certification procedure so that their people don’t have to prove their lack of a brain every time they have a propaganda fair.

kaptinemo you just gave me a flashback to a time 40-45 years ago when my dad took me to the National Zoo. They had the elephants locked up in a super sized jail cell and were held by a chain on one ankle. Seriously, their home was a very large jail cell. Bars, concrete walls, no bedding of any kind. It was very disturbing to me but even moreso when I recall what happened there. t would make Sheriff Joe Arpio excited. Well, at least our civilization has advanced beyond such cruelty to animals. we’re surely not over it when we’re talking about people.

Maria, when I first read of the brand spanking new withdrawal symptoms that the Know Nothings have identified, I thought, wow, that’s what happens when I’m separated from my wife because of business requirements.
Should we be more sympathetic to Discovery if their participation in this unsavory propaganda campaign falls under dogmatic curcumstances? I think it’s quite possible Discovery fell under surveillance for prohibitionist redemption after revealing this scientific discovery a year ago.
Oops, comment devoid of link:

The “Discovery” Channel seems to be nothing more than corporate shills and govt. propaganda pawns.

But the absolute worst drug documentary I’ve seen goes to the National Geographic Society for “The World’s Most Dangerous Drug.” I could not believe an organization with their history and reputation produced such horrendous journalism and reporting.
@ NewOldSalt. The discovery of a shaman’s 2,700 year old tomb with 789 grams of meticulously contained cannabis was only published on a few media sites in November of 2008. Not one of them covered the Chinese anthropological site pictorially, never mind as extensively as the Discovery link I provided. They also had the presence of mind to provided us with this nugget:
‘The size of the seeds mixed in with the leaves, along with their color and other characteristics, indicate the marijuana came from a cultivated strain. Before the burial, someone had carefully picked out all of the male plant parts, which are less psychoactive, so Russo and his team believe there is little doubt as to why the cannabis was grown’
What would be the motive behind a corporate shill and govt. propaganda pawn in releasing the discovery of the oldest documentation of cannabis as a pharmacologically active agent? Aren’t they all on board the hyperbole that purports botanical sophistication of cannabis wasn’t rendered til 1977?

@Common Science, sorry. I can’t watch Flash video so, I didn’t see your link. Maybe I can find a computer which can display Flash. I try to keep my vitriol to myself but it seems it leaks out from time to time.
