Surprise surprise. Latinos are getting behind the California ballot initiative to legalize pot. You mean the same folks who gave the world Cheech (not Chong), Acapulco gold and the very word marijuana? Orale!
Seems he loves to play with the Latino stereotype…
On Tuesday, he reported some excellent news (with his own special dig at the end)…
The National Latino Officers Association was scheduled to give pot legalization its thumbs up Wednesday morning at the William C. Velasquez Institute in L.A.’s Lincoln Park community.
At the same time, the Yes on 19 folks will release a study showing that Latinos have been disproportionately arrested under current marijuana laws.
According to the study, titled, “Arresting Latinos for Marijuana in California,” “In the City of Los Angeles, where one in ten Californians live, police arrested Latinos for marijuana possession at twice the rate of whites.”
It also states that from 1990 to 2009, “the marijuana possession arrest rate of Latino teenagers in California more than tripled.”
What’s the point? To scare the all-important Latino vote into approving Prop. 19, which would allow the 21-and-older set to possess up to one ounce of cannabis.

Lets be honest. Some Californians don’t want to give up there little tool to keep poor communities down. I am not one who approves of throwing around the word racist but I do see this guy is some kind of ass. xDlol
Poll NO, Vote YES on Prop 19.
Poll NO when you could jeopardize your job or your standing in the community.
Vote YES when you are in the privacy of a polling booth.

I’m not suprised to find racism creeping into the debate. These drug laws have been, are, and will continue to be the institutional arm of official racism in this country. It’s a little scary, seems after Obama was elected, racism became acceptable in the mainstream again. Now its somehow okay to suggest, out in the open, without a white hood over your face, that somehow anticolonialism (whatever that is) is genetic.
For a number of decades I have pondered whether or not white people can be racists against Hispanics. For a very large part Hispanics are Caucasians.
Racism, Its like voting D or R .Just another tool for those ruling to keep people divided. End prohibition…Remove one racist, freedom robbing tool. Next up….politicians that actually work for us. Our work dont end here.
I watched Chips all the time when I was a kid, and officer Poncharello was the epitome of the Good Guy. If he’s down with prop 19, that means we’re on the right side 🙂
Seriously, I’m glad to hear Hispanic police officers are on board. I don’t know about the Hispanic population in general–they are socially conservative in many ways. It will be interesting to see the final numbers.
