Wednesday, the Arizona Cardinals donated $10,000 to the organization called Keep AZ Drug Free, which opposes a medical marijuana bill.
This is from a football organization on their fifth year of a beer sponsorship deal with Anheuser-Busch.
Budweiser and Bud Light will serve as the exclusive alcohol sponsors of the club, and a “Budweiser Red Zone” will occupy a place in the south end zone of the stadium. Signage on the video display boards and elsewhere is also part of the deal.
What an enormous waste of money
Our’s is but to reason why:
“After practicing law for six years as a federal prosecutor, Michael Bidwill joined the organization in 1996 as Vice President/General Counsel and today serves as team President. In that time, no one has been more influential in steering the organization’s on its path towards an eventual NFC Championship.”

Anyone wanna bet that the old doper married to John McCain is actually behind this donation? How soon we forget.
I’m glad I hate pro football.
I bet this team will be one of the first to accept money from any marijuana organization that becomes legal in the future.
Buttwiper is the worst beer ever. Canadian ratpiss beer is better. I wouldn’t drink buttwiper if it was free. So the boycott was already in effect.
i wonder how much money anti-drug groups would have if it wasn’t for corporations with over sized PR budgets.
“keep arizona drug free” Wow. No aspirin on store shelves, no anti biotics. No vaccines. No anaesthesia for surgery. And the “show me your papers” law. Arizona’s going insane.
It boggles me that people can be stupid enough to buy into the “drug free” line. Never in human history have we been “drug free”. Entheogens were likely the FIRST drugs. All cultures that have access to plant life have native entheogens. On a personal level, when you were born, the first thing you got in that big chugalug at mom’s tit was a dose of anandamide. (of course, if that anandamide hadn’t been there, you would’ve likely stopped suckling altogether and died)
As for football, I’d have to be drunk to watch it, and since I don’t drink….Sports franchises are just that….corporate franchises. Anybody surprised there’s a booze company and a former prosecuting attourney behind this?
and this from a sport that should encourage it’s players to consume cannabis (the neuro-protective thing) instead of alcohol.
For a really long time I have conducted what I call “Uncle Al’s Unofficial Roadside Surveys®” and after driving (commercially) California’s roads for a couple of decades I concluded:
More assholes drink Bud than any other beer. A conclusion reached after finding Bud cans and bottles everywhere along Cali’s roads.
I have to laugh when I see Bud Lite commercials because it’s like “Bud Lite? Heck, Budweiser has no taste as it is…”
Wait, I’m confused, are the AZ Cardinals giving away free Budweiser at their stadium?
No
I was expecting a bunch of KKK lookalikes praying over a bottle of holy water.
Anyway, Sport’s important!
Its Sept 18 Global Compliance Day!
Jaws slack! TV’s ON!
Budweiser perfected its recipe for its current beer during the Great Depression. This was a time when American brewers wanted a product with as few ingredients as possible to save on production costs. Budweiser got what they paid for: Bud’s pisswater was the result.
I prefer ales. Ale flavors are rich and remarkable. And purchasing from the micro-breweries and brew pubs helps the local economies.
Heres a good article on the PSF lobby. Just wish other media utlets would pick up on the hypocrasy of this lobby. MSM is discussing cannabis re-legalization but havent seen them question why the Police Associations are supporting or bieng supported by alcohol lobby , alcohol which CAUSES much of the misery that LEO’s deal with. Of course we here all know they are just protecting thier wallets…not public saftey…on this matter.

I too drink ales and local micro brews. I learned long ago that these corporate frachises are a bad thing in our political atmosphere and stopped supporting them…so my boycott has been in effect for a while.
I would like to see a day when people consume a little cannabis an realise things like football are a waste of time and take a more serious look at the world around us. A time when people will see how these big corporations( Football, baseball, nascar, alcohol , ectectect) are ruining our society . Im sure Ill get some blowback on that statement but its true. Our government is bowing to who ever fills their pockets the most. Our people talk more about thier favorite overly paid sports personallity than they do about what wrong with our county and where its headed.
Open your minds to the reality around you.
Stop playing these corporate games that rule your life.
My pal once made homebrew that was way overpressured. We laughed and laughed as the bottle caps imbedded themselves in the ceiling or ricochet’d around the room as bottles exploded in the case in the middle of a movie…
Ah, Bruce, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye and some legislator has an excuse to ban it. 🙂
Oops Delete that pete LOL
A course is now required here in B.C. just to get a restaurant job.
Did it for 10 years before entering construction. Now a ticket required to cut pepperoni. No surprise to hear of folks moving to the forest.
I had some Red Seal and Sol brews and watched ‘American Drug War-The Last White Hope’ again. Possibly the best drug war documentary ever made. Bravo to judge Gray and LEAP.
This has long been a pet peeve of mine.
I all too frequently read or hear:
…alcohol and drugs…
…alcohol or drugs…
What I should be reading or hearing instead:
…alcohol and other drugs…
…alcohol or other drugs…
Personally, I prefer a nice, stimulating sativa to go with a documentary, and a stony, couch lock indica for more the more hollywood, fictional stuff. Foriegn films call for hash.
Oh, and film noir? the darkest hash you can lay hands on.
IS the implication that the Cardinals are hypocritical? If so, I disagree. Alcohol companies have a HUGE vested interest in keeping drugs (their primary competition) illegal. In the wake of all the steroid scandals, the Cardinals get to (a) look tough on “anti-doping” and (b) please their corporate sponsor the beer company – and all for the trivial sum of $10,000… chump change for an NFL team.
There’s also a high probability that Anheuser-Busch paid or reimbursed the Cardinals the $10,000.
Actually, BruceM, I call hypocritical on the Cardinals. Not on alcohol, as you rightly point out they just don’t want competition.
The Cardinals are perhaps media smart to do this, but they’re still hypocritical, because they’re saying that they’re anti-drug and trying to stop even medical use of a drug that has nothing to do with doping, while heavily promoting another drug.
DarkC, during a recent visit to the UK, I was shown a two ounce bar of lusciously dark green Afghani hash that was allegedly provided by Her Majesty’s Forces serving in Kandahar.
Oddly enough, I don’t hear of the Dutch, or Spanish, or Portugese beverage industries suffering. That’s somthing I just don’t get….when alcohol is society’s drug of choice, inextricably linked to celebrations, religious occasions, sports, etc. How do they figure to lose business? Pot was legal and consumed as medicine and recreationally all the way through alcohol prohibition. Didn’t change our thirst for drink one little bit.
Nice! Malcolm, I’m currently looking at a twenty+ gram blob of amber waterprocess. Soft, waxy, and just the tiniest fingernail scraping needed to invoke bliss. I love going to San Francisco!
Niether as large nor as flavorful as the Afghan , no doubt, but at least it’s here!
Here, I’ll set one up for ya…
@darkcycle…. it doesn’t have to be a significant shift to get their attention. Anheuser-Busch generated gross sales of $19 billion in 2007. A reduction of 1/10 of 1 percent due to people switching to marijuana would be a loss of $19 million. $10,000 is chump change if it might save that kind of money.
I rather like this post over at Alternet
Let’s take it to “Big Alcohol” and do something for hardworking americans at the same time.
Stop drinking Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Michelob, etc….all those shitty shitty American beers that are just pisswater anyway. That is not real beer.
Start buying beer from American microbrews: Deschutes Bend, OR), Sierra Nevada (Chico, CA), RedHook (Woodinville, WA), North Coast (Fort Bragg, CA), Rogue (Newport, OR), Stone (San Diego, CA)….and so on. You get a FAR better product (real beer, even) and you help out some good liberal American companies (alright, I’m assuming they’re liberal….but if all the progressives in the country switched to their products, I think they’d bend out way if they weren’t already.) And I just listed those on the West Coast that I have available readily. Everywhere has their own locals.
Or start brewing your own! It’s fun, and after the initial setup costs ($250-$500) depending on how much you want to brew at a time, it’s dead cheap compared to store bought beer. And you get a better, PERSONALIZED product.
Microbrews are more expensive, to be sure….but do your waistline a favor and drink less.
This is real combat that the “Big Alcohol” companies will surely understand. Take the fight to them, take the profit out of their pockets. They are all big GOP donors anyway, especially Coors.

It appears you really can boycot beer and drink it.
I know, but I’m an oddity, and I think that tee-totalers would likely be teetotalers no matter, and tokers are tokers. I honestly haven’t seen alot of people who gave up alcohol for pot, and those that have, all have given up booze for pot in spite of it’s prohibition. None of my exclusivley drinking friends would give up drinking if pot were legal tomorrow. None of them have expressed an interest in taking it up. I really don’t see an impact of even that 1/10 of one percent…. We’ll see though, won’t we! Regardless, these booze barons will still be sitting pretty.
And let’s not forget WHO is in charge of Arizona distribution of Anheuser-Busch. I doubt it would have been done without her approval.
I think the scoreboard would be purtier advertising some kush buds or even some sativa on harvest day.
Oh don’t be so unreasonable. They’ve seen the evidence, the people want beer.

Notice how nice and respectably the protesters are dressed! Have you ever seen how potheads dress, even at church on Sundae? Can we even be sure that one pothead in the US even owns a tie?
@darkcycle, “On a personal level, when you were born, the first thing you got in that big chugalug at mom’s tit was a dose of anandamide. (of course, if that anandamide hadn’t been there, you would’ve likely stopped suckling altogether and died)”
Well that can’t be right. My mom never produce viable breast milk. Last I checked I’m still alive, as well as my 4 sisters. The only one of us that got breast fed was the oldest, and that got my mom accused of willfully starving her. But since it was 1945 or 46 they just yelled at her and made her feel like a totally worthless failure instead of putting her in prison and sending the kid to foster care. –“Vat de hell you do? Starf dis child?”–
Hey, something just crossed my mind that I hadn’t thought of before. Of the 5 of us Patsy was the only one who got any breast milk. She’s also the only one of us that doesn’t have a screw lose. Just because the milk had no food value doesn’t mean that the endo-cannabinoids weren’t present. Fascinating.
On the other hand it wouldn’t even cause me to blink if there were valid reasons why that lack of endo-cannabinoids in my first couple of days is why my brain is ‘different’. I’ve often related that event was a significant turning point in my life, and that my perception of it was that there was a circuit completed. Gosh did the drug rehab cons ever enjoy making fun of that. Then in 1992 (give or take) Research found the endo-cannabinoid system. Did that ever teach me that I should believe that which I’ve seen with my own eyes, and not what others, including (perhaps especially, perhaps so called ‘authorities’ tell me. You know I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone else that marked that event as a red letter day. But it was on July 1st, 1977, in Ridgefield Connecticut. I was trying to hitchhike back to Nova and I got a ride from a really nice man who was willing and happy to share. I never actually made it out of Ridgefield that day, but did I eat a lot of pizza that night. I Googled because I can never keep straight whether it’s anandamine that’s the neurotransmitter and anandimide the neuroreceptor or vice versa. Of course you do need both to complete the circuit.
While doing that I found a cannabis study that I hadn’t seen before. Nothing spectacular, just curing cancer again.
http://www.pnas.org/content/95/14/8375.short
“The endogenous cannabinoid anandamide inhibits human breast cancer cell proliferation”. Don’t we already have enough cancer cures? Do we really need another?
Bow tie? Clip on? or traditional?
Would you mind enabling rss feeds, because this page is difficult to read on my phone. Don’t mean to be a complainer, but I figure if it would help me it would probably help others as well. Thanks 🙂
