Do you see Joseph McNamara getting a one-on-one interview on CNN? MSNBC?
Why does Fox News suck? They broadcast the show that has a hard line Libertarian host named Judge Andrew Napolitano who insists that the drug war is an demonstrable, epic failure. The people from MPP get face time on Fox all the time. I think it’s several times more likely that cannabis activists will get face time on Fox than any other network. Yes, they have an ulterior motive which is to stimulate debate and controversy which results in higher viewing audience numbers. So IMO they’re likely the best network around. There’s no such thing as bad publicity as long as they spell your name correctly.
Timothy Leary partnered up with G. Gordon Liddy in the early 1980s and they got people to pay them scandalously large fees for letting them watch the two men argue about drug laws for a couple of hours.

LEAP is going to have a significant influence in ending the war on some drugs IMO. How many times have I heard a know nothing say ‘ask any policeman, they’ll tell you that re-legalizing drugs is bad, mm-kay?’ Well here’s over 10,000 that don’t share that opinion. Powerful shit if you ask me.
Duncan, You’re right. FOX news is probably our best TV news site for getting drug policy reform coverage. There may be plenty of other reasons to hate FOX, but in drug policy, they’re the best by far of a bad lot of cable “news” channels.

while there is some merit to your argument that “There’s no such thing as bad publicity as long as they spell your name correctly.” IMO the intent of faux news Steve Doocey isn’t to raise awareness or to educate the “know nothing”s. it’s to smirk to the camera as if to say “look how even former law enforcement officials can be so stupid”.
as Pete points out there are plenty of reasons to hate faux news.
Not to mention fox news is watched by an audience that should hear these facts. A lot of police and military historically conservative types watch and hopefully see the prohibs with nothing. Then, maybe they realize conservatism = small government

IDK, I think the fact that steve dooshy is so smug and armed without facts the audience would take Mcnamara’s side. But I’m I don’t watch fox and have a limited knowledge of their shows and audience.
I would go into why Fox News indeed sucks and is easily the worst network but that would technically be off topic. Yes, they had on McNamara, good for them. That doesn’t excuse all the horrendous BS they regularly push as “news”. ALL of our media is pathetic, but just because Fox News throws some bread crumbs here does not make them “the best”. Not even close.
Something the chief brings up, and that I’ve heard time and again before, is that cops/chiefs can’t say what they really feel due to Blue Line Influence. However, one can’t help but believe that once inside the voting booth, the BLI has no idea how they vote. They may have to side with NO verbally pre-election but on election day, they can vote YES without worry.

I actually thought Ducey, who I think is a tool, gave a very fair interview.

I also commend Joe for not letting Shap cut him off, and essentially getting everything he could out of that short time.
I’d like to hear someone in the prop 19 debate talk about the studies that have been done on smoking pot and driving. Like this one http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-20007257-48.html . I know of one other and they both say that it causes drivers to be more cautious and drive slightly slower (which are not even value neutral but positive characteristics, no?).
I know it’s easier for legalization proponents not to get weighed down in this, but the false equivalency with driving on alcohol is ridiculous, and yet it pervades every discussion. You almost can’t be seen as “serious” if you are open to it.
@ Duncan – LEAP’s membership is not 10,000 former LEOs. I haven’t heard latest numbers but I suspect maybe 10% or so are, the rest are us’ns. Maybe Tom Angell can give us a more accurate number?
It would be a better bet to say “LEAP, with it’s hundreds of former criminal justice professionals…” because they are not just cops, they are judges, border patrol, corrections, prosecutors…
