Jane Hamsher on marijuana legalization in an immigration debate

FDL’s Jane Hamsher did a great job of re-directing a segment on Arizona’s immigration laws to ending the war on marijuana.

Friggen beautiful. Even the conservative would not argue against legalization, she wouldn’t come out and support it but she wants to re-think her position about it. That is progress.

RETHINK IT, HURRY THE HELL UP, THIS PROHIBITION NEEDS TO BE OVER

  3. kaptinemo says:

Ms. Hamsher is a cancer survivor. One gutsy lady to begin with, her internal steel was tempered by her ordeal.

People who’ve survived such things don’t take BS sitting down. ‘Nuff said.

  4. Shap says:

Wow, a point that liberals and conservatives should have no trouble agreeing about. Very well done by Jane Hamsher for redirecting the mainstream media’s misguided focus on the immigration issue.

  5. Jared says:

Is it odd that I’m turned on by her intellect and politics?

Regardless, I’m glad Hamsher saw the benefit in bringing up the marijuana issue in regards to immigration. It is true though, we’ve got illegal immigration because a) people don’t want to die in Ciudad Juarez or Sinaloa and b)illegal growers are coming into the U.S. state parks to grow safely. If we were to legalize, tax, and regulate cannabis, then for one the growers wouldn’t enter the U.S. The demand would lessen, and the Mexican cartels would abandon the most successful of their imports. Now, if we were to legalize all drugs, Mexico could have a real chance to thrive in a way it hasn’t since the 80’s.

claygooding: agreed! I was shocked that the conservative didn’t reflexively invoke the boogie man of drugs. Republican pollsters must be telling them something.

And, as pathetic as it might sound to people on this board, the California Democratic Party’s official stance on Prop 19 is neutral, which is a giant step in the right direction.

  7. Just me. says:

WOW ! Looks to me the truth is starting to set in good with people. Eventually this country will see the harms of prohibition and it WILL END !

  8. Rev. Run says:

The conservative lady that came on after Jane Hamsher was a moron. If she knew anything about conservatism she would know that it would be the conservative thing to say not that “they should be representing Arizonans” but, rather, that they should think their duty is to all Americans. (Cf. Edmund Burke, the father of conservatism in the English-speaking world.)

The conservative lady also thought that the problem was “criminalizing users” instead of “enriching violent cartels.”

Jane Hamsher, on the other hand, was pitch perfect.
