Derrick Humbert was wanted on a warrant for possession of marijuana. After being pulled over during a traffic stop, Humbert got out of his vehicle and ran. An officer used his Taser to end the chase. Humbert was taken to the hospital where he died.
And these irresponsible legalizer druggies claim that marijuana is harmless. Tell that to Derrick Humbert.
All’s fair when it comes to blind faith – in drug wars – and the compassion & reason that always goes with their ‘Kill or Incarcerate’ strategy. Imagine non-lethal force being lethal… I’m sure some kop is crying in his beer tonight… or NOT!
Protecting us from the dangers of drugs! Mr Humbert is pretty safe from their pernicious influence now.
Insanity. Rank insanity. Drug prohibition has always been tainted with that. As have those who’ve promoted it. The ‘reasoning’ processes involved in arriving at the idea that human nature can be ‘perfected’ through legislation can only be described as insane, given the record of history showing no such attempts ever being successful. Morality has to first be demonstrated before it can be inculcated, and that begins in the home.
Since they cannot rationally explain themselves, prohibs rely almost entirely on force as as shortcut to achieve compliance with their irrationality.Their modus operandi bears a striking resemblance to that of the bloody butcher Mao Zedong when it comes to enforcement: “Power grows out of the barrel of a gun”. Which makes them exactly as Nietzsche described the authoritarians of his day:
“But thus do I counsel you, my friends: distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful! They are people of bad race and lineage; out of their countenances peer the hangman and the sleuth-hound. Distrust all those who talk much of their justice! Verily, in their souls not only honey is lacking. And when they call themselves ‘the good and just,’ forget not, that for them to be Pharisees, nothing is lacking but- power! – (Thomas Common translation)
Such are those who seek to ‘protect’ us from ourselves. But it’s obvious who really needs protection from themselves…and it ain’t us.
I’m curious, does anyone know if tasing a fleeing suspect is now standard operating procedure? I know they are not supposed to shoot unarmed suspects in the back, but is tasing OK?
Usually, a taser does not kill, but sometimes it does. I also wonder what the statistics are showing for that. How many deaths per 100,000 tasings?
My understanding is that Tasers kill when the person with the Taser overdoes it. It’s not really that hard for me to believe that a cop, hopped up on adrenaline, chasing a ‘bad guy’, and having been told that Tasers are ‘non-lethal’ might be inclined to give an extra jolt or five to the ‘bad guy’. It also wouldn’t be too hard for me to believe that for a small subset of the population will drop dead from the electric shock, and aren’t anything but statistical outliers. But the former seems much more likely to me. Excited delirium has been pretty much discredited, except to those who find it a convenient excuse so I’m discounting that as nonsense. Like the Church Lady would say, ‘isn’t that conveeeenient?’
I don’t know the statistics for taser deaths, but you can carry one too,if you want,in most states. They are a very effective defensive weapon,or as an offensive weapon of surprise.
Tasing seems to be standard operating procedure anytime the LEO wants to use it. Of course the dangers of these things are not considered.
Tasers really need to be banned.
@paul:) When i went throught the academy (80’s) you could shoot a fleeing felon in the back with lethal force in california. Back then citizens could ‘detain’ criminals too – witnessed misdeamors or felonies with probable cause – and check them for offensive weapons only, and restrain as needed until the authority showed and would formally arrest or release them. But the best advice is what kops are taught and practice… “it’s better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6!” SElf-defense is one of our lessor know common law rights… since ancient greece… for obvious reasons!
Let’s see…a guy has possession of marijuana, cops get wind of it…now maybe this guy’s a stoner or trying to make money, or both, but none-the-less a warrant goes out for him. The victim gets pulled over, runs for it and then dies shortly after being tazered with around 500kV of electricity. My point: guy has marijuana and is alive (along with millions of other people in this country alone); same guy gets jolted by a tazer gun and dies almost immediately. I wonder what killed him, Pete? I’d have to say ignorance (on the part of the cop) and high voltage, not rollin’ up a fattie. You’re a classic member of the sheeple, ya believe any bullcrap the auto-agenda politicians and lawmakers wanna tell you. People like you are what’s wrong with this world. So I re-phrase your question, “Marijuana. Victim of propaganda and ignorance?”
Welcome to the site, Al. You might want to actually read some of Drug WarRant to get an idea of what we’re about. Then you’d realize that this post was dripping with venomous sarcasm.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to come along and misread it. It actually was longer than I thought.
Holy crap! I’m sorry man, I was just browsing, came across that little snippet and it just rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize! I am highly sarcastic myself, can’t believe I didn’t catch it…I was browsing a few other pages on this site and noticed the sarcasm, but it didn’t click on this one. Sorry dude!
How embarrassing.
No problem, Al. Good to have you here.
– Pete
That’s enough to make a pot smoker paranoid. : )
