Kevin Sabet pretends that his argument about the dangers of marijuana is a legitimate critique of legalization, and that things like context and relative risk can be ignored.

Whew, some of the commenters there are, hmm, special.
Brain Surgeon claims Kevin Sabet is brain dead:
‘We have medical records for every minute Kevin Sabet has spent debating drug policy, and none of them show any indication of brain activity. In other words, as far as neuroscience can say, there is absolutely nothing happening inside his head.â€

What a brilliant collection of his garbage, not that I’m all that likely to read most of it. Thanks for posting this.
Hmmm, well according to this fact sheet from the CDC:
* Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States; and
* Cigarette smoking causes about one of every five deaths (or around 480,000 deaths in total) in the United States each year.
Oddly enough, I can’t find a similar fact sheet on the CDC website summarizing the death toll from cannabis use. Probably just a lack of computer savvy on my part. Any chance you could provide the relevant link? Kev?
Given the studies that have linked passage of a medical marijuana law with reduced suicides, reduced traffic fatalities, and reduced crime rates, I’d say we’ve got a hell of a lot more reason to think that marijuana prohibition kills people “in the form of mental illness, suicide, and car crashes.”
Cum hoc ergo procter hoc?
I guess Sabet wouldn’t know Latin anyways.
Not having an ability to discern differences is synonymous with poor judgement.
With Kevin Sabet’s logic I can say that mosquitoes kill and are just as deadly as bears. Context and risk matter. With this logic Michelle Leonhart cannot tell the relative harm difference between marijuana and heroin.
Deception purposely done to confuse a person of the facts makes Kevin Sabet a liar of a very dangerous kind.
It makes him very good at spreading reefer madness.
Nah, he helps our cause ten fold.
He’s our best friend. I love his comedic value
Using that same pattern of logic you can also easily make the same leap with other things.
* Talking on the cell phone can lead to emotional depression
Driving badly on the road
Fits of Suicide and depression if your battery runs out
* Texting on the cell phone can lead to dangerous driving
* Having sex while driving
Fairly absurd, I wonder if we stop listening to Kevin would he stop talking?

Busting a gut in one minute maybe… Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, HA!
Dear Pete and couch mates,
Happy holidays one and all.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but KS has gone over the edge, clearly delusional, and the best, most helpful thing I can do for him and his ideas is ridicule them. He, he, he, he has no clue. He’s embarrassing the letters he has after his name, they’re running off to find someone else to adorn that makes sense, or at least is slightly funny or ironic.
Maybe he was just playing with a new video camera he got for Christmas.
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, HA!
Maybe this is why he’s a “A former adviser on drug policy to three presidents…” (No longer having that job has to be devastating for him.)
.
What he’s not saying in his crazy equivalency assertions is that he’s willing to perpetually criminalize or control some significant percentage of our population, (because of a non-toxic choice, and thinks he can ‘help’ them by controlling them), and beyond that, somehow has no moral conflict with the continuing institutionalization of the black market. If you’ve got a prescription from an MD for opiates though, no sweat. These are like depraved business decisions.
Beats me…
Ice: The new menace and horror to society
Hydrogen hydroxide is now thought to be the true “gateway.” Users of hard drugs apparently began using it before moving on to other drugs. What’s worse is that many IV drug users have been found mixing it with their regular drugs before “shooting up.” So many in fact that it may be likely that nearly 100% of IV drug users are mixing hydrogen hydroxide into their “fixes.” And the mixture concentration is frightening. As much as 100 times more pure hydrogen hydroxide may be used in mixtures with cocaine, heroin, meth-anfedamine, and other drugs already shown to be extremely addictive.
In addition to the toll suffered by its users, the full societal effect of hydrogen hydroxide usage is now becoming apparent. It is suspected that perhaps all of the country’s homeless, indigent, mentally ill, and hard core drug users have at one time or another been frequent users of hydrogen hydroxide. Many of these people began using at a young age when US drug policy was focused on less seriously damaging, perhaps even beneficial drugs.
It all started with that wet stuff. It gets everywhere.

C’mon people, it’s not the water per se that is causing this wholesale epidemic of death! It’s the DHMO, which is the active ingredient in water! Fortunately for our society the Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division (DMRD) has people tracking and sounding the alarm about this menace to the community.
http://dhmo.org/alerts/
Overdoses… People are referring to the ridiculously high LD-50 of cannabis, obviously. Though many have tried, death by cannabis overdose doesn’t happen. It does for alcohol (dispatching college students far too often). The nicotine in a cigarette is enough to be lethal, if eaten, too.
With or without intoxicants, it is always possible for people to do stupid and dangerous things like playing in traffic, gravity abuse, death by dihydrogen monoxide, etc.
Such straining at the gnats of ‘death by marijuana’ would be amusing – if not for the far more numerous deaths by prohibition Sabet so studiously ignores.
When pot is legal from sea to shining sea, I think Sabet can find a job picking cherries – he’s got a real talent for that.
From the video, Kevin says,
“…COPD and marijuana are inextricably linked…”
How MANY times do we have to refer to Dr. Donald Tashkin’s research demonstrating that the above statement is categorically false.
Eh, but why does it matter with a habitual liar. When Sabet’s tour stops are now whittled down to the Heritage Foundation, he is speaking to an ever shrinking audience.
.
.
Didn’t somebody mention that the prohibitionist motto is “never let the facts get in the way of disseminating an effective piece of hysterical rhetoric”?
Even if we presume that smoking cannabis causes COPD, smoking simply is not required in order to gain the benefits of cannabis, whether for medicinal need or just plain enjoyment. Any potential health hazards due to smoking are not the hazards of cannabis, but of smoking.
