So lonely

This article is hilarious.

The lonely lot of the anti-pot crusader in the Washington Post.

McCormick says he knew of no group fighting the initiative, heard no opposition to it in his church and got no traction for his anti-weed views on his vibrant Twitter account, @blackmanhelping, where he opines on local affairs. McCormick, a construction project manager, considered challenging the ballot initiative himself, but he ultimately realized the futility of fighting an army of marijuana advocates.

Such is the lonely lot of today’s pot opponent. Parents like McCormick, once heroes of the just-say-no 1980s, find themselves outgunned: The anti-marijuana movement has little funding or staff, little momentum and, it appears, little audience. […]

“These guys are in a full-court press coming at you from every angle,” says DuPont, 78, who runs the small, Rockville-based Institute for Behavior and Health. He sounds exasperated. “They have a bench 1,000 people deep. . . . We’ve got Kevin Sabet.”

Hilarious. Also ridiculous in the sense that they still have the entire federal government and its agencies (though that, hopefully, will change), plus all sorts of groups who profit from the drug war (like law enforcement, etc.).

But still, it’s fun to read in a tables-turning sort of way.

No shit. The advantage of having a reallllllllly long couch.

    We’ve got Kevin Sabet.

🙂 No shit. The disadvantage of covering yourself in manure.

(Uproarious, side-splitting laughter, catching breath) Oh, my! Oh, jeez! Where to begin?

Well, first off, I was right about Sabet being the only one amongst the prohibs slick enough to represent them…and I mean the only one. DuPont just confirmed it. Expose Sabet for the mendacious fraud he is, and they have to fold their PR campaign…pathetic as it is. In the Information Age, lies have as much of a half-life as an ice cube in a blow-torch flame.

Secondly, they’re the ones with the deep pockets, as Pete and others have pointed out. And yet, with that huge advantage, they can win only a very few converts? Hmmm. I wonder why. Must have been the above-mentioned mendacity that turned most people off.

Not to mention the annoying, unwarranted and undesired authoritarian bent to all their messages. Bound to rankle any adult to be treated as perpetual wards of The State…which is just what drug prohibition does; reducing putative adults to exactly that position vis-a-vis that same State. For, if you are not sovereign over your own person, you are not free, period

Oh, Hell, I’m preaching to the choir, again. Sorry. I think I’ll take my bile and squirt it in the eyes of the prohibs over at the WaPo…where they can’t miss it.

    • Tony Aroma says:

For, if you are not sovereign over your own person, you are not free.

And if you are not free, then by definition you are a slave. Which is why prohibition, or any law that takes away your personal sovereignty, is a violation of the 13th Amendment. Wonder why no one’s ever challenged the CSA for that reason. Seems like a slam dunk.

hey mates, OT but figgered I’d throw it out there. Ya know that veteran PTSD study the Sue Sisely got fored over in AZ? Well, as you may (or may not) know, her study was blocked from receiving intended state funds from a bill killed by state rep Kim Yee. ms Yee is up for re-election this year. If you have friends in AZ, expecially if their veterans or pot heads, give ‘e, the heads up.

In Oregon we had the NotDwight campaign. I’d be glad to help AZ have a NotYee campaign.

    • claygooding says:

I have heard from two sources that Yee is not anti-MMJ but that they were awarding a study to someone besides her choice of recipients,,,greed strike even among advocates and supporters and the guilty should be shunned for letting their greed override their conscience,,,a questionable trait among most politicians and a lot of other people.

      • Recall:
The group Arizona Veterans Assistance Committee filed a petition against Yee on April 7, 2014, for using her position as Chair of the Senate Education Committee to kill a bill on marijuana research already unanimously approved by the House.

HB2333, sponsored by Rep. Ethan Orr (R), would allow some of the taxes collected from the sale of medical marijuana to go towards marijuana research on university campuses. Yee, who sponsored legislation allowing university research in 2013, stated that the medical marijuana tax fund was only to be used for public service announcements to help prevent drug abuse.

Supporters of the recall need to collect 18,297 valid signatures by August 2 to take the recall to a vote. The petition filed with the Arizona Secretary of State lists former Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate Marc Victor as the recall committee’s chairman and marijuana reform attorney Thomas W. Dean as the applicant. Kathy Inman, Arizona’s Director of the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws, is the group’s secretary.

        • B. Snow says:

To the best of my recollection Ms.Yee was on, and often still appears to be on the the right side of this issue. BUT, she’s been pretty flip-floppy on specific related votes, proposals, and, well… Crap like this.

IMO – She should be regarded as suspect until she goes on public record with a distinct pro-marijuana public & even then – henceforth be continually scrutinized = because she seems to vote based on whose watching, and we need to nudge/remind her she IS being watched regarding her “sketchy” (possibly waffling) votes/views on related legislation & such.

Somebody, who uses an RSS reader should consider putting an RSS alert on her or ‘Google Alert’?
I’ve never really used either one, or I would do this myself.

For that matter, “We” (as a group) might think about divvying-up all the various legislators and people like Ms. Yee – and “following” each/all of them individually, so as to be 100% certain we’re “keeping them honest” about all of this.

          What do y’all think?
Honestly, IDK how much work it would actually be – I might be persuaded to figure-out the workings of that stuff, and help – if needed.

        • claygooding says:

As was told to me she had a different person for the study lined up,,they passed over her suggestion and she responded by throwing a wrench in the works,,but like Snow,,she bears watching,,she is willing to allow patients to suffer in order to further her or someone else’s agenda.

      • B. Snow says:

Okay, after seeing her more recent remarks – this one sticks out at me as the most important – and sign that she’s gone beyond the point of public redemption:

“Senator Yee’s biggest problem with the bill is she feels backers of the scientific study want to legalize marijuana, as in Colorado or Washington state.”

“Oh noes, God forbid the want to ‘Legalize It’ = To Hell with the PTSD sufferers, There might be teenagers out there who’re getting stoned…”
aka = “Think of the Chitlins”

Might be young people getting stoned Indeed! = Like that would be a new “thing”… Something, that doesn’t currently exist in her version/perception of reality!

I stand corrected, While previously willing to give her the benefit of the doubt… At this point – I say to hell with her and suggest we no longer address her respectfully – or by her real name.

I’m thinking, “Mizz Yee”, or “Miz-Erh-Yee”, perhaps “Mizz-Durh-Yee”?

It’s also quite a black swan because I can’t recall ever thinking that someday I might agree with something that Dr. Bobby said. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…I just can’t imagine choosing anyone other than Kev-Kev to be the face of Big Prohibition. Partner him up with Stupid Patrick and we could be looking at a combined sequel to both Weekend At Bernie’s and Dumb and Dumber. Hopefully they’ll cast Ren and Stimpy as Kev-Kev and Stupid Patrick respectively.

In honor of this event here’s a link to Kim Jong il’s virtuoso performance of I’m So Ronery from back in 2004. Fuck yeah!

Corporations can buy legislator and legislature but they cannot buy the people,,if we could look at the “private investors” that donate to the grants for law enforcement the corporations/lobbies depending on the government continuing hemp/marijuana prohibition would be exposed so the public can understand just why all we are still getting is memo’s and a vote in the House that still cannot protect the banks from seizures,,they are attempting to keep marijuana Schedule 1 and write banking regulations for it anyway and I see nothing but land mines for the banks and marijuana businesses that try to use them.
That is a lot of money going into politicians pockets right there so I will hold my cheers back until the day they remove marijuana from Schedule 1.

there was a day when some activists dismissed online commenting as ineffective at best. But it was in John Kerry’s campaign that we set the bar. Dumbass Kerry had his own website with an open forum.

In fact it was at that site that I got turned on to Pete’s DWR. My skinny ass has been parked here since.

Over the last 40 years the United States has spent over a TRILLION DOLLARS on the drug war. More and more every minute. They spent 1.4 BILLION dollars between 1998 and 2006 through NIDA alone to spread specifically anti-marijuana propaganda. And they did it with tax dollars extorted from the American people. DuPont whines about well funded legalizers?? BULLPUCKY. ” National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that the government’s ad campaign aimed at dissuading teens from using marijuana, a campaign that cost $1.4 billion between 1998 and 2006, did not work: “greater exposure to the campaign was associated with weaker anti-drug norms and increases in the perceptions that others use marijuana.” The research company was paid $42.7 million for the five-year study. After the February 2005 report was received, the office continued the ad campaign, spending $220 million on the anti-marijuana ads in fiscal years 2005 and 2006.[19]” From Wiki.”

Another problem the article makes clear is the problem with journalism in this country – this notion that “objectivity” means giving equal play to an opposing view, right or wrong, rather than facts.

    • kaptinemo says:

My opinion concerning that is that it’s a matter of guilt…on the LameStream Media’s part.

For years, Hell, for decades, the LSM acted as happily panting, fluffy little lapdogs, rarely if ever challenging ‘authorities’ regarding their pronouncements on illegal drugs…while quite a few of them were inveterate tokers, themselves, and knew the truth as opposed to the ONDCP playbook lies they were being spoon-fed…and expected to regurgitate. And thus helped perpetuate an atrocity of international dimensions.

And now? Now with public support for MMJ and re-legalization having reached the tipping point and rising ever higher, the LSM must find away to become relevant to those whom they once disparaged with condescending articles (Pothead’s dream of legalization goes up in smoke", that kind of bilge) about a life-or-death subject.

They were, and in some cases still are, enablers of prohibition. And no amount of trying to sound ‘even-handed’ can disguise their past support of the indefensible.

Rand Paul runs circles around Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren on ending the drug war and basic civil liberties. And Joe “lock up Chong and his bong” Biden? Please. The lefties have NO ONE for 2016 that can hold a candle to Rand Paul on our issue, not even Bernie “marijuana isn’t an important issue” Sanders. Rand Paul is far from perfect, but he’s gobs better that what the lefty Democrats have to offer in 2016. I think it was in part specifically to re-assure the ‘drug-worriers’ that Joe would *keep young Barry in-line on the issue*, I’m not going to go thru it all again but you can google-back w/ the ‘advanced search’ and limit it so this site plus, “B.Snow” and “Joe Biden”…

And find my thoughts on the man and his historic hand in all of this crapolla drug-war, including his Coining the term “Drug Czar” – while saying we “needed one” – after the Death of Len Bias – his response was Joe’s “Anti Drug Abuse Act of 1986”.

Which – if he tried to get away with today – he would get called-out for “Concern Trolling” via Legislation!

Or you could search for my heartfelt declarations of “Fuck Joe Biden!”, or actaully – let me do it for ya…

Pres. Obama took this and (at least) went along with it & Kev-Kev incorporated it into his bullshit as well… Heck, part of that may have started w/ him for that matter – IDK if it was Biden who had him brought in or not?
It could be more of a matter of “leaving him there” – from a prior administration, until such time as they wanted him “separate from government” – but still able to tout/brag about having a long government résumé = IDK?
In a similar line/train-of-thought – I’ve often suggested (and its in fact my belief) that they intentionally left M. Leonhart in her acting director position as long as feasible, and eventually had Kerlikowski promote her because she’s a weak debater = with a storied past.
One that allegedly includes – repeatedly associating w/ and using a Confidential Informant – known to have testified & lied on the stand – at the behest of the government, possibly at her direct request…

After George W. Bush took office in 2001, however, “his Attorney General John Ashcroft dropped 88 counts against Koch for the benzene spill and cover-up” in exchange for a guilty plea to falsifying documents and a $20 million fine (a settlement from $350 million in potential fines.)

The Kochs made out pretty well in exchange for their $32,200 contribution to the 2000 Bush campaign. The job killing Koch brothers are making out even better under Barack Obama.

Legalizing Marijuana: Why Citizens Should Just Say No
To begin with, an astonishingly high percentage of criminals are marijuana users. According to a study by the RAND Corporation, approximately 60 percent of arrestees test positive for marijuana use in the United States, England, and Australia. Further, marijuana metabolites are found in arrestees’ urine more frequently than those of any other drug.

The amendment, attached to the “Bring Jobs Home Act,” would allow states to “enact and implement laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of marijuana for medical use” without threat of federal interference. The measure would also protect patients in places where medical marijuana is legal (23 states and the District of Columbia) from prosecution for violating federal marijuana laws.”

If you want to read one of the most absurd “policy” articles about marijuana in history, go quickly to the website of the Heritage Foundation to read “Legalizing Marijuana: Why Citizens Should Just Say No.” I say quickly because it is truly so absurd, I believe it will be taken down from the site soon.

The Heritage Foundation’s Collectivist Call to Ban Marijuana
In an article for the Heritage Foundation, Kevin Sabet argues, “marijuana legalization poses too many risks to public health and public safety.”

Marijuana Legalization Measures Will Drive Voters, Poll Finds
The survey of 1,000 likely voters found 73 percent support allowing marijuana for legal medical purposes, 53 percent favor decriminalization and 68 percent are “more likely” to go to their polling place to weigh in on a ballot.

“Marijuana legalization and marijuana decriminalization is at a tipping point” said Celinda Lake, president of Lake Research Partners and one of the two pollsters who conducted the survey. Support crosses party lines, though younger and single voters — who tend to vote for Democrats — are more motivated by those issues, she said.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) visited the Heritage Foundation this morning to deliver a speech about a constitutionally conservative foreign policy — one that respects the Founders’ vision for America.

Are we just pawns of the Koch brothers?
          Daily Paul Liberty Forum
I’ve tried to explain to him that the grassroots Liberty movement had a lot to do with getting things going, and that perhaps Koch-funded organizations and Republican establishment were able to exert their influence later on and distort the Tea Party.

“I came to the United States to examine the Tea Party phenomenon. And in particular: THE ACCUSATIONS THAT THE PROTESTERS WERE PAWNS IN A COVERT POWER-PLAY. BY A SMALL GROUP OF BILLIONAIRES AND CORPORATE PLAYERS.” –The Australian film-maker.

So what’s your point DdC? Do you support Hillary Clinton over Rand Paul on this and other civil liberty issues? Or do you simply not support him at all because he said something at some point that you disagreed with?

Personally, I don’t really care as I know from what I’ve seen that this guy is – so far – the most liberty minded candidate that MAY have a chance at winning the presidency; do you disagree with that? Or would you prefer a President Hillary?

You need to chill out dude as we are all on the same side and I’m just sharing information about a candidate that is speaking our language AT THIS TIME. I doubt that he will change his language moving forward, but that’s just me…

    • John says:

Rand Paul would doubtless be a far superior candidate to Chris Christie:

(Did congress pass a law requiring all MSM drug legalization articles to mention and quote Kevin Sabet?)

No John, – In reality its Kev-Kev who takes it upon himself to make sure that he’s included in practically every article = worming his way in -often- by pointing out that he worked in the ONDCP under several presidential administrations.
Thus, knowingly giving-off the false impression/assertion that this means – he’s somehow “fair-minded” in regard to the issue… When anyone with a pulse, and even the weakest grasp on the subject knows better.

If you look at the numbers of casinos in NJ that have closed this year, you’ll believe like I do that Christie is going to do a huge flip-flop come budget time.

  17. War Vet says:

I wonder if this father realizes that he prefers child rape and war and terrorism over legalizing pot (and other drugs)? Because that is what happens when drug money is in the hands of people: they use it to kill, destroy, ravage and create the kind of terror that controls people and finances wars and genocides.

American drug policy is often the root of many evils and influences other nations to do what they do in regards to drug prohibition. Shame on this father–a former Navy seaman for technically saying ‘9/11 and our War on Terror and it’s devastating costs are acceptable consequences to keeping marijuana (etc.) illegal and on the black market’.

  18. Steve Finlay says:

If Kevin is the only one they have, does that mean Paul Chabot is also disappearing? Praise God, Allah and Krishna, I sure hope so.

lol… how about Dr Eric “Darth” Voth being MIA?

I had a thought the other night as thunderbusters rolled across the northwest starting wildfires w/ hundreds of lightning strikes. Fire crews were scrambling and the NatGuard was brought in (because it’s what they are for, not foreign expeditions).

My thought was that the prohibs must feel like those fire crews. There’s legalization lightning striking everywhere and they don’t have the resources to keep up and drug policy wildfires have gotten out of hand and way beyond their control. AND they can’t call in the FANGs 🙂 for back up!

Chabot is “B List” compared to Kevvie…and that’s not saying much.

Notice how the books of the prohibs are NOT flying off the shelves? The only people buying them are their own kind. They still do not understand the political and social landscape is de- and re-materializing before their very eyes…and they have no future in it.

Just their connections to government, guilty of countless lies these past 14 years, makes them suspect. The audience they so desperately want to court is rejecting their mendacious advances. “Once burned, twice as shy.” The American people have been burned too many times by these frauds.

Those they sought to bamboozle courtesy of their propaganda and lies, conveyed by such organizations as DARE, grew up…and now trust the prohibs as much as you would your stereotypical used car salesman. The prohibs are reduced to shouting inside of an echo chamber that’s shrinking by the day.

And, standing outside of that chamber is the audience the prohibs wish they could make captive, again, as they were in school. That audience is looking on as would those visiting a zoo, pointing at the very strange animals inside, and noting their increasingly hysterical screeching and impotent poo-flinging. And that audience is laughing at those sad, angry creatures…when their faces aren’t registering disgust with their conduct.

If they were smart they’d be negotiating a compromise. But they’re just a bunch of idiots. Why the heck else would they be using the same arguments in Florida that have been losers in 23 States and D.C.? Adapt or die…I just haven’t got the words to express how sincerely grateful I am that they decided to play for all or nothing.

Speaking of MIA, I’ve heard a few belches from Calvina WRT Florida’s proposed Amendment but she’s being almost silent considering that we’re in her back yard.

Capitulation, ain’t that just one sweet sounding word? But “botched” is still my current favorite word. Here it is in a sentence: Mr. Sabet was never such an extreme foaming at the mouth prohibitionist until that drunken surgeon botched his lobotomy.
