BuzzFeed has a hilarious/horrifying piece: The 14 Most Ridiculous Things Police Bought With Asset Forfeiture
Just of few of them…
Michael McDougal, then district attorney for Montgomery County, Texas, spent over $400 on tequila, rum, and kegs and $139 on a margarita machine. The DA’s office even won first place at a county fair for best margarita. […]
A sheriff in Virginia was convicted for bribing two police officers with $420 in asset forfeiture proceeds. […]
Sheriff Bill Smith in Camden County, Georgia, spent $90,000 on a Dodge Viper for the county’s Drug Awareness and Resistance Education (DARE) program. […]
[the same] Sheriff Bill Smith spent over $35,000 in forfeiture funds to pay prison inmates, including building a “very nice party house†for the sheriff.
From the same BuzzFeed article: “A district attorney’s office spent almost $1,000 on a zamboni for a “drug diversion program†in Worcester County, Mass.” — The Segways, while silly, are perhaps more understandable than a zamboni. Hehe.

Another little crime in the long line at the financial end of the drug war gravy train. Can’t legalize it, there’s too much money in it.
well my world is good… I have a fresh baked cherry pie cooling on my kitchen table, vanilla ice cream in the freezer… I grew the cherries (in fact I planted the trees, this is my first real harvest) and made the pie from scratch. Damn that amotivation syndrome!
I’ve also put 4 gal of strawberries in the freezer and made a fresh strawberry pie (that’s the shit there mates) so far this season…
And thanks for posting this Pete. Just that short list is (or at least should freakin’ be) enough to warrant castrating the forfeiture beast.
Forfeiture pirates enjoy their booty, wreck their livers. Easy come, easy go.
“…the judicial power, that sure criticism of the goodness of government was always, in a popular government, the instrument of tyranny.†– Jeanne de Lolene in The Empire of Reason, H. S. Commager, p. 122.
The majority of prohibitionists profit on the drug war,
and that is their only motive.

âWE ARE speaking of a plague that consumes an estimated $75 billion per year of public money, exacts an estimated $70 billion a year from consumers, is responsible for nearly 50 per cent of the million Americans who are today in jail, occupies an estimated 50 per cent of the trial time of our judiciary, and takes the time of 400,000 policemen — yet a plague for which no cure is at hand, nor in prospect.âž

Seriously troll? Do you know why treatment centers use the word “may, or might or could potentially”, in studies?, Always some in the future hobgoblin that never pans out when the past catches up. Same old shit different troll. Because it is not conclusive. Or is it consistent or even repeatable. More Gutter science and gossip to the printer and off to cast shadows. You dung worriers remind me of monkey’s in older zoo’s still caging. Tossing feces onto the tourists. You money grubbing idiots just hurl it and see if it will stick. 12, 000 years of use and still no victims, just old gossip and new trolls to spew it. Pitifools.

Cannabis Shrinks Tumors: Government Knew in 74
The ominous part is that this isn’t the first time scientists have discovered that THC shrinks tumors. In 1974 researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice — lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia. The DEA quickly shut down the Virginia study and all further cannabis/tumor research.
Urine Testing Company
After his resignation, Turner joined with Robert DuPont and former head of NIDA, Peter Bensinger, to corner the market on urine testing. They contracted as advisors to 250 of the largest corporations to develop drug diversion, detection, and urine testing programs.

Ddc, be nice. Duncan was only pointing out the absurdity of extrapolating to humans from one, clearly unique and aberrant study on mus musculus domesticus. It’s a one in a million result, and will no doubt not be replicated. I do hope you gentlemen are not sharpening your spears for one another. After all, it’s a silly waste of both of your energies.

Settle down Beavis! That sounds suspiciously close to you making the assertion that flatulence isn’t funny! I’ll have you know that jokes about flatulence are among some of the very first human forays into the comedic arts. There was a thriving trade in flatulistic comedy dating back to before we developed a spoken language! If you got lost in a Geico commercial and ran into one of those cave guys you can always share a good long honker to break the ice! [chorus starts humming the Battle Hymm of the Republic in the background] We wouldn’t be the people that we are without our long and pre-historic love affair with flatulent humor! Who in their right mind would think anything other than that if things were different, they just wouldn’t be the same? There’s just no arguing with logic that pure!
I addressed the troll who wrote it, not the one who signed it. Its DdC. I don’t see why that is so hard to copy.
Sorry, I short stroked the shift key. It was just a typo. Jeez.
In Case You Missed It, Government Confirms And Reports That Marijuana Prevents Or Cures Certain Cancers
http://goo.gl/QY7yK
FTA:
Addressing the White House website statement that medical marijuana should remain criminally illegal under federal law, Pappas said that “with every drug, the doctor must consider the benefits versus any possible side effects. In its 3000-plus year history of medicinal use, there has never been a known, confirmed death caused by overdose of marijuana. To suggest that prescription drugs known to have severe negative side effects are alright and that marijuana can only be used for cancer or AIDS is nonsensical. It demonstrates how the Federal government’s decision to usurp state sovereignty is harming people because burdening citizens with federal criminal records based on medical marijuana provided for under state law is simply wrong. To continue outlawing the use of a drug shown to have life-saving, anti-cancer benefits that has been used safely as a medication for thousands of years is irresponsible.â€
The Top 5 Special Interest Groups lobbying to Keep Marijuana Illegal
http://tinyurl.com/cu9bym5
Last year, over 850,000 people in America were arrested for marijuana-related crimes. Despite public opinion, the medical community, and human rights experts all moving in favor of relaxing marijuana prohibition laws, little has changed in terms of policy.
There have been many great books and articles detailing the history of the drug war. Part of America’s fixation with keeping the leafy green plant illegal is rooted in cultural and political clashes from the past.
However, we at Republic Report think it’s worth showing that there are entrenched interest groups that are spending large sums of money to keep our broken drug laws on the books:
1.) Police Unions
2.) Private Prisons Corporations
3.) Alcohol and Beer Companies
4.) Pharmaceutical Corporations
5.) Prison Guard Unions
They left out the drug screening industry,,urine analysis will be just a bad memory after legalization since they are really only effective at finding marijuana users.

On the subject of how LEOs spend asset forfeiture funds, does anyone have any good pointers on filing FOIA requests to find this info? I’m spending some time in a very rural area of south GA while I try to land my next professional gig and feel like stirring things up a bit.
I’ll be careful, I know these assholes can cause me a world of hurt if I’m not careful.

Georgia? Run away as fast as you can… Candyman Stoner was trying to bust hemp lollipops. Thats some fierce paranoia. Its a state by state basis and over 200 laws are attachments. But your state even without Knewt and Bob Barr has more than its share of reefer phobic madness without mentioning the profits of forfeiture supplying retiring sheriffs homes. Rainbow Farm Massacre I used to hitch hike to Florida from PA and wouldn’t take a ride unless it went to Atlanta in the 70’s. Like Austin, a blue island oasis in a red sea. Personally, when its that obviously draconian enforcement without oversight. I’d move to civilization.
