In Meridian, Idaho, Mayor Tammy de Weerd has taken it upon herself to use tax dollars to spread Reefer Madness to her constituents.
By Executive Order, Tammy established the Mayor’s Anti-Drug Coalition (MADC), which received $625,000 from a Drug-Free Community Grant through the federal government.
Tammy doesn’t like marijuana much. Note one of her recent blog posts (on the official city website).
It is clear that Idaho is a target of pro-marijuana organizations; as communities we need to take a stand against this occurring […] In addition, we are asking the State Legislature and Governor to send a Joint Memorial to President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the federal government take appropriate action to enforce federal drug laws in all states and uphold international treaties relating to the control of illegal drugs in the world.
When the time comes, I hope you will stand with us against efforts to legalize marijuana.
Now a Meridian resident notes that the town has been distributing these anti-marijuana leaflets inserted in the water bill!

The flyer is full of discredited nonsense, exaggeration, and misdirection. Remember, this is a city government, most likely using federal grant money, to send false information about a political issue in official communications to their citizens. We ought to be outraged.
If only we weren’t so used to being lied to by the government when it comes to the drug war.
One has to wonder how much of that $625k went into the Mayors bank account.
Or if some inflated amount was paid to a constituent that happens to own a printing company!
It’s fairly common for city officials in isolated outposts like Meridian to steal from the cookie jar. The pamphlet and its mailing is obviously a wasted effort. It makes the $625,000 look more like a bribe than a grant. If someone would sue the mayor and the city for misuse of funds, they might demand an audit and expose expenditures for trout fishing trips, or some other self-serving, fringe benefit.

Anyone can contact the Meridian city clerk’s office with a Freedom of Information request for records showing past expenditures involving this program. I’m sure they also have to have to report this information periodically with the federal SAMHSA to maintain their funding or reapply for it. Since she has been in office since 2004 (re-elected every 4 years), you can also request from the city clerk Mayor Tammy de Weerd’s campaign contributions and expenditures. Check any big pharma or alcohol involvement – they have three state liquor stores, nine pubs, breweries, wine and beer stores, and Slanted Rock Brewing Company just opened in Meridian last December (and the Mayor does not have “quality of life” issues with those things!!). Open government and truth will set us free.
It takes a bit more than looking at public records to expose graft.
For example, county government officials in S. Idaho absconded with some funding and were exposed only after an individual citizen went door-to-door in the community to alert residents of a problem. It’s not as easy as it looks.
BTW, the guy who went door-to-door, former city council candidate Lee Halper, should be congratulated for his heroism, but probably won’t be since he’s a long-hair hippie freak.

Finally, in 1929, the economy collapsed. Does that sound familiar?
Ironically enough, Totalitarianism is associated with the left (all left-wing regimes were totalitarian). Alcohol prohibition was a progressive (left-wing) movement, but NOT a liberal one. Next time some idiot says legalization is an agenda of the left, here’s some “ammo” :D.

It’s just crazy in Idaho. A guy I used to know got caught there with an empty bag and a pipe, and they tried to pressure him into becoming an informant and setting up his dealer.

ER “visits” for cannabis are way up, well over 400,000 last year. Of course that’s what happens when they start having the intake person ask every patient if they know someone who ever smoked pot.
There were just under 1.5 million ER visits for adverse reactions to FDA approved potions, pills, or powders. Not for using them to get high, there was another 1.something million for that. These visits were for adverse reactions when used as directed.
My father who is a rather hard core prohib was asked at his latest ER trip if he had “recently consumed marijuana? ”
His very impatient, and insulted – he is a prohib after all, reaction?

“We would like to share with our citizens just one of many home invasions that will not be in the media but will end up being additional charges for Lupe Trevino’s narcotics unit. Here is the case:
In January of this year, a man who was being served civil process by a Deputy Constable, asked for help regarding a break-in at his home. He told the Deputy that the incident had ocurred in late 2012 and that no one had done anything about it. The man said that four men had forced their way into his house. The men were armed and held him against his will while they searched his home. The subjects also broke through the walls looking for something. They threatened to return and told him not to say anything. After they left, he called Alton Police. The officer who responded refused to take a report so the man called the sergeant at Alton PD. That sergeant told him that there was nothing they could do. The man didn’t understand why they wouldn’t take his report since he was living well within the Alton city limits. He then went to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and spoke to an investigator who told him that they would be looking into it but no one has ever contacted him from there again. In December of 2012, he mentioned what had happened to an old friend who works for a police department. His friend asked him to go by his office so he could show him some pictures. He was shocked when his friend showed him pictures of these subjects because he was easily able to identify the four who had broken into his home. He asked his friend who these guys were and his friend told him that these were the cops who were just arrested for escorting and stealing drugs. His friend told him that he would be forwarding the information to proper authorities because his department did not have jurisdiction. The man asked the Deputy Constable to take a report because he still had not been contacted by any one and wanted to know that at least someone had documented his story in case something happened to him.
APS did not let this case go unnoticed. The man is under protection. Lupe Trevino has only seen the beginning………

Remember the old movie JFK ? I sometimes feel like Jim Garrison did during his investigation into the (first) Kennedy Assassination, when he’s going over the testimonies given previously, and keeps saying to himself “Why don’t they ask the (screamingly obvious) question?”. A court case where there are penalties for perjury – which is all a prohib can do when talking about cannabis – would stop a lot of this outright BS in its’ tracks.
The reason these lies continue to be told is that the liars who tell them have never spent a day in court, testifying under oath as to the source and veracity of their information.
If they were forced to, they would immediately have to plead the 5th Amendment as soon as they opened their mouths to avoid that charge of perjury. Only the least intelligent or more zealous of them would risk it.
Too many reformers are chopping at the branches of the poison tree, not enough at the root. Challenge the lies in court, and that poison tree, itself, is poisoned…as will be the purveyors of its’ fruit.

I asked Radical Russ to please ask the next LEO he is in a debate with,after the LEO finishes his spiel about the dangers of marijuana how much funding his agency received from federal grants in the last 5 years and what percentage resulted from marijuana arrests. A question that keeps being missed in the debates,,just like nobody cornering Sabet on how much rehab depends(or doesn’t depend according to him)on the continued criminality of marijuana.

Today’s blood sugar study came from a familiar name, Murray A. Mittleman, MD, DrPH, of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Unit at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. You might recall that in 2000 Dr. Mittleman published a study which the prohibasites very much enjoy misrepresenting to this very day. That’s the one that said that pot smokers older than age 50 have a 4.8x increase in heart attack risk in the first hour after smoking. That increased risk makes the odds 1 in 100,000, at least among the obese, tobacco smoking subjects used for the study. Dr. Mittleman warned in that study that it was likely confounded by added risk factors but you know those confirmation bias addled prohibitionists, they only read the headlines.
But I’ve got to tell you, the more of these studies that I read, the more pixxed off I get. It becomes more and more obvious that not only is prohibition just plain wrong, but that it’s killing people in addition to making the sick suffer more than needed. What about the children? What about humanity?

PTSD is viewed as a fictional malady by a not insignificant number of not insignificant people. If I’m not mistaken this study has proven that PTSD exists. Sorry, I tried to put some space between scientific discoveries that show marijuana to be the wonder drug of the 21st century, but there’s a cluster-effect of major medical marijuana milestones happening out there in science land.
I find raw scientific studies useful in refuting medical marijuana deniers because the deniers are unlikely to want to touch science with a 20-foot pole. Something about a science study itself actually repels, sending some people screaming into the wilderness. It’s one reason I like science.
Some people don’t like science because scientists are evolutionists. Many in places like Idaho take their own advice and don’t evolve. Consequently, anti-evolutionists are prone to believe all science is suspect because of evolution. Politicians exploit this attitude and extend it to encompass drug prohibition, climate change denial, and a host of other private, money-motivated enterprises aimed at oppressing and exploiting American citizens.
There’s nothing that makes the typical anti-MMJ blogger look more idiotic than an objective posting of the latest, original, point-blank scientific study that shows cannabinoids control Crohn’s Disease, or some other ailment. Especially since the probability exists that someone in that blogger’s family is going to kick the blogger’s ass for working to deny them the medicine that would have eliminated their symptoms or saved the life of a relative.

Straight Inc is a very real skeleton in the Prohibitionist closet. The Sembler’s connections go very high on the political ladder (Sembler hunior was finance chairman, if memory serves, for Jeb Bush in FL).
I’m pretty sure I’ve also read there are Straight Inc spinoffs still operating… in FL.

When I attended school with De Weerd’s daughter, the young lady seemed to have no problem with binge drinking. Maybe they don’t talk about drugs honestly in that house at all.
She has no place telling other people how to live their lives using government money, especially given the effectiveness of her parenting.
I live in Boise, and I have a friend that got one of these propaganda sheets in Meridian. A few months back the Idaho State Legislature was trying to “save Idaho” from marijuana and mayor De Weerd was brought up. When I saw a pic of De Weerd and her family, I thought, “Her kids probably smoke cannabis.” Not accusing anyone here, but it’s just the feeling I get.
