Oakland Insists It Can Defend Medical Pot Club
SAN FRANCISCO (CN) – The city of Oakland renewed demands to stay forfeiture proceedings against a local medical marijuana dispensary whose business it defends as a matter of state’s rights.
Though the U.S. government says that Oakland lacks standing to try to block it from seizing Harborside Health Center, the city argued that it has an interest in protecting its economic and public health interests, and it says a stay would serve the orderly adjudication of justice.
I have no idea whether the city has a chance of winning, but I really admire and applaud the fight.

We’re fighting the same fight as always, but slowly the laws are turning in our favor. What a sweet time this is for the legalization movement.
i wonder what happened to jerry brown’s love for oakland. he used to love it so much when he was mayor. surely he has read the tenth amendment. if they want abrogate the constitution why don’t the feds just say so.

Our Federal Government recently accepted $1.9 billion from the bank HSBC as settlement of HSBC’s drug and terrorism-related money laundering. Our Federal Government says they couldn’t prosecute HSBC because they are “too big to fail”. More like “too rich to jail”, the feds only want money and if you have enough of it you can buy your freedom.
If the feds can be prevented (via money) from prosecuting terrorists, drug cartels, their bankers, regulators who looked the other way, etc., because the prosecution would harm the economy, then they should announce that as policy:

It appears that Canada has decided to abrogate its participation in the Single Convention Treaty. As I pointed out yesterday the SCT requires Countries who want to allow medical use of the naughtiest substances on the naughty lists to produce and distribute those prescriptions. Why in the heck do some people so hate cultivation?

Doesn’t matter if they win or lose. It’s one more challenge to federal authority in the drug war. Every law suit, every vote against prohibition is one more brick in the wall. As more and more individuals and local/state governments line up against the feds, it gets harder and harder for them to justify their hard line prohibition stance. And it becomes more and more obvious who their “war” is really against. Hint, it ain’t drugs.

We had 7th Cav somewhere close to us in Tahn Sohn Nyut(sp) and had a staging area where they unloaded the wounded and reloaded with supply’s,,,,it was way too busy sometimes and then wouldn’t see them for weeks.
I didn’t even recognize your patch,,but I had never seen one that had colors other than black and green.

and me and my buddies,,we would lay-up on the end of the runway and take pictures of the fighters afterburners on take-off,,the AP’s w/dogs would make us go back through the fence to our company area.

hadn’t thought of it this way before but it seems Pete’s couch (custom made with a durable hemp fabric, btw) has a corner booth. Now that’s craftsmanship.
a word on that… a decade ago I was doing a side job turning a garage into an apartment. The home-owner husband was chit-chatting w/ me while I worked. I looked up at him while cutting a board on the table saw and stuck my right index finger straight into the moving blade.
Long story short, nurse in the ER was my age (the home-owner was freaked by the injury and blood far more than I) and we talked like old friends as she smoothed up the ragged edges of the cut before sewing the finger back together. She mentioned she was a vet, I said me too. Asked her where… “oh, on an island in the Pacific,” she said, “I was a nurse back then too. We received the planeloads of wounded from VN.”
My saw-cut finger literally faded into insignificance… and my love for good nurses (like good teachers and good waitresses) grew yet again…

The real poison pill, the one the Feds will move Heaven and Earth to avoid coming anywhere near, much less swallow:

“Despite the government’s refrain that cannabis has no medical benefit, the government’s own patents and scientific research reveal that the government believes in the medical efficacy of cannabis,” it added. “The government has sought exclusive ownership rights to cannabis compounds and their use by applying for and securing U.S. and international patents.” (Emphasis mine – k.)
It’s said that “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread”. That should be amended to read fools and drug prohibitionists.
There it is. The petard that could hoist the entire Fed prohib apparatus into orbit. Going all the way back to the 1974 studies proving cannabis has anti-cancer properties. The inherent hypocrisy laid bare for all to see, not just reformers. Uncle’s deadly intransigence in refusing to research those anti-cancer properties is laying like a nuclear mine hidden amongst the conventional ones that the prohib’s ships are heading directly for.
By all means, prohibs, full steam ahead. In fact, I’ll grant you ramming speed. Please ‘rush in’, I’m begging you…
We are not quite ready to legalize marijuana. A few thousand peasants need to be chased off their land near the international border and another 50-60 thousand Mexicans need to be murdered to get rid of some of the extremely poor. After we redistribute the land to our campaign contributors then we can seriously think about legalizing marijuana.
