Dear President Obama:
We, the 18 national and 16 state organizations below are writing to commend your Administration for its efforts to enforce federal drug laws, and strongly urge you to reject any calls to revise the United States’ policy on illegal drugs that would legalize marijuana or other illicit drugs. We urge your Administration to remain steadfast in its efforts to enforce Federal drug laws in states that allow “medical marijuana†and to reject any calls for outright legalization of marijuana and other drugs anywhere in the United States.
The supporters, of course, include a lot of the major drug war profiteers, such as National Sheriff’s Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Troopers Coalition, National Narcotic Officers’ Associations’ Coalition, along with the major funded (some by government) anti-drug orgs like Drug Free America Foundation, The Partnership at Drugfree.org, CADCA, etc, and weirdo groups like Save Our Society from Drugs, plus, oddly, 5 groups from Arizona.
I hope the President is happy with his core supporters.
Note that those who support prohibition make money from it, while those who oppose prohibition do not.
No conflict of interest here. Nope. Nothing to see here, move along, go back to your jobs so you can pay your taxes which fund our salaries. Don’t force me to “save” you with this club.

These are the people that Obama is so terrified of being politically attacked by(law enforcement, prosecutors, DA’s), that he has decided to let the full force of government fall down on marijuana smokers anywhere and everywhere.
Talk about having “paid” friends,,not one of those organizations is free of a conflict of interest because they all lose funding and some go out of existence when prohibition ends.

Norman – I just slipped over here from drugwarrant to see this entertaining conversation your having. I do find it amusing. Why? Because David has the same disease as most any drug warrior in our country…he believes that using marijuana is a “crime.” He believes it so strongly and with such determination that no amount of reason will change his thought process. He’ll tell you its the “law” and the ugly things hes seen it do to “other people.” It will never be their fault though, it won’t be their lack of self-discipline or self-control – it will always be “marijuana’s” fault. I heard an old analogy before and it can be used with any substance – take any substance, in this case marijuana, place it on the ground and watch it. Watch it for as long as you like, it will never harm any one and it will most definitely never kill anyone. As a matter of fact, it will amazingly do nothing at all. The substance is not the culprit, it is the user and it always has been. People who “abuse” and don’t “use responsibly” are those who are at fault – but you go ahead David and keep blaming the substance. If more people took responsibility for their actions, you’d solve 99% of the problem…
Of the list of 34 supporters, the only organization appearing to have a link to science or medicine calls itself The International Scientific and Medical Forum on Drug Abuse. It publishes The Journal of Global Drug Policy and Practice. The organization is actually a subdivision of the Drug Free American Foundation (DFAF).
The DFAF has this to say about its ‘scientific’ subdivision:
“The International Scientific and Medical Forum on Drug Abuse is a brain trust of the world’s leading researchers involved in drug-related research and physicians concerned about the drug abuse problem. This group helps to dispel misinformation related to current drug issues in the media.”
What this ‘brain-trust’ actually does is formulate and spread disinformation about marijuana and medical marijuana dispensaries. No surprise, of course. Some of the articles have a bizarre, John-Birch-Society quality to them, like this one, Pawns of Pot: The Coexistence of Marijuana and Animal Crimes, in which the author, a veterinarian, laments the marijuana innuendos he perceives in TV episodes of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo.

Recall what happened when the nicotine patches came out? I recall the early NicoDerm commercials in which a very pretty Carolyn McCormick emphasizing how the poisonous, addictive drug nicotine…was ‘medicine’. Heavy, very heavy emphasis on the word.
So, after the Obama Administration and its’ low-rent corp-rat muscle in the (ha-ha-not-funny) ‘Justice Department’ have destroyed the dispensaries, and Big Pharma introduces its’ reblended cannabis as something ‘new’, what will we hear then? That’s it’s just as good as weed?
Nicotine does have medicinal values, actually. It is one the best known substances to increase the production of dopamine in the brain. That is beneficial for people with brain disease and injury, such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers. And, of course, nicotine can be found in a range of plants including lettuce. Poisonous? In the form of smoke, or incredibly high concentrations, maybe, but very rarely. It would take a LOT of raw tobacco to kill anyone. Don’t believe the biased government science please, since you know what they do to cannabis science.

It makes a heckuva good, inexpensive pesticide. You know, from time to time I wonder why health insurance won’t pay for smoking cessation drugs, if tobacco smokers really cost so much extra.
My point was to illustrate the inherent hypocrisy that generally goes unchallenged, thanks to the ‘reality gatekeeping’ of corporately controlled media. Bad enough tobacco is marketed by people intent upon addicting you to it; worse that the ‘cure’ is also provided by the same people. The paper-thin rationalization is that by calling it ‘medicine’, the inference was that it was somehow different from the same damn thing those wanting to quit were trying to get away from.
As far as toxicity goes:
The LD50 of nicotine is 50 mg/kg for rats and 3 mg/kg for mice. 40–60 mg (0.5-1.0 mg/kg) can be a lethal dosage for adult humans. Nicotine therefore has a high toxicity in comparison to many other alkaloids such as cocaine, which has an LD50 of 95.1 mg/kg when administered to mice. It is impossible however to overdose on nicotine through smoking alone (though a person can overdose on nicotine through a combination of nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and/or tobacco smoking at the same time). Spilling an extremely high concentration of nicotine onto the skin can result in intoxication or even death since nicotine readily passes into the bloodstream from dermal contact.

A few things I have learned in my life… all people are self serving, expect it. All people take the path of least resistence, exptect it. Lies, repeted over and over for 70 plus years become the truth for many, many people and are very tough to put to sleep. But as poll after poll show marijuana legalization is more popular than ever my question is…at what point does the majority opinion matter? I believe that we are being ruled by the minority at this point. Next year it will even be a greater majority. Again, in a democracy, is it acceptable for the majority to be ruled by the minority? A majority of the People in Amemica want legal marijuana. Why are we pussyfooting around? Let’s get it done and move on to the next big thing…like the budget.
I usually get blowback when I explain that we are a democratic republic, not a democracy. There is a difference. But then again, I’ve found that most folks are clueless when asked if they know the difference. In any event, it is crony capitalism and corrupt government that are responsible for our current condition. And since I seem to be a glutton for punishment, I’ll say that the solution for our condition lies more with the Republicans than the Democrats, notwithstanding Gary Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is the least Libertarian candidate to get the party’s nomination, and by a very wide margin. One could argue that Bob Barr came nearly as close but he was enough of a whore that he might have acted as if he were actually a true, hardcore Libertarian. Hey, the client is always right.

Gov. Johnson only supports legalizing cannabis, he’s not for completely ending the war on drug(user)s. Ron Paul is the only one who is proposing that, and if elected he WILL do it. Third party voting is only going to get us more of the same we have now, voting Ron Paul would bring about real, beneficial, and necessary change.

I think the paradigm shift has made a lot of people lose their math skills as well.
All I saw after the 4/24 primaries were articles talking about Romney’s “big win” in 5 states. The glaring reality of that big win is that the media has created apathy.
In Rhode Island, for instance, only 14,488 people voted. There are over 1 million people in that state. Most of the states that voted on 4/24 had less than 2% of the state population actually get out and vote. Pennsylvania was the only exception with 6.3% of that state’s population voting.
So, even with the media effectively brainwashing most people that Romney is the only alternative to Obama, people still did not want him. Instead of doing the math, people just took the media’s word that it was a “sweep”. That kind of sweep will never, ever beat Obama.
All five states that voted on 4/24 held closed primaries, meaning only registered Republicans could vote. In Romney’s only voter base, there was glaring apathy.
The rEVOLution consists of disenfranchised Democrats (that’s me), true conservatives within the Republican party, and Independent/Libertarian voters.
If people really are wanting Anybody But Obama, they better jump on board with a candidate that appeals to more than just apathetic neocons, that’s for sure.

I look for Obammy to feint to the right with a request for congress to investigate medical marijuana appx mid August,,and requesting the report results for the week after the vote.

Anyway,,I am excited about an election for the first time since I started voting,,and I hope society doesn’t have to wait that long for another exciting election,,they should all be exciting.
