Count the Costs is an international organization that focuses on the costs of the war on drugs. They have just released an environmental briefing (pdf) discussing the costs of the war on drugs to the environment.
Send this to all your friends who are active in environmental issues. In general, environmental groups have been friendly to drug policy reform (despite governmental attempts at misdirection), but awareness of the depth of destruction caused by the drug war could cause them to increase their support even more.
Very informative article.
Can’t wait until the next time a drug warrior says something like “drug users are responsible for damage to our National Forests”. I’ll simply tell him/her that they are to blame, and hand them the article.
If only drug warriors could/would read it.
“If only drug warriors could/would read it.”
You hit it perfectly. The prohibs are a group of people that can deny and ignore scientific research, scholars, scientists of all disciplines and feel empowered by doing so.

It’s silly to expect the illiterate to read anything.
(off topic, but good analysis of the way the private prison industry uses lobbyists to skew the criminal justice system, making punishment as harsh as possible, in order to increase profits)

Thanks for the PDF link. That’s definitely something to add to the arsenal.

Another bullet for the gun,,,looking hard for that silver bullet to kill this bitch with.
The War on Drugs Machine
At the top is the ONDCP,and their job is to make sure all the cogs in the machine run smoothly or as smoothly as they can, when you are coordinating several federal bureaucratic agencies that may be in competition for budget dollars with their allies.
Under the ONDCP’S budget the following agencies split up the 16 billion tax dollars alloted to keep drugs out of America:
“snipped”
You can research the above at :

So when anyone advocates legalization of marijuana,,you are threatening thousands of federal employees, bureaucratic empires and just good old boys.

The problem is we’re fighting the equivalent of the Black Night. We’ve rebutted–repeatedly and decisively–every argument the drug warriors put forward in favor of Prohibition, hacking the arms and legs off of the beast. And yet it stubbornly refuses to die or even to acknowledge that it’s beaten. But the reality is that those aren’t just “flesh wounds,” and it’s losing a lot of blood…

C’mon Francis, you need to do this right. Where’s your supporting video?

Off topic, but good news: Governors petition DEA to reclassify medical pot.L.A. Times story
.
.
New York Times too, and they’ve already closed comments. WTF is wrong with those people at the Times?
Colorado is getting ready to file a formal rescheduling petition with the DEA. The Feds are really getting ready to be faced with a classic Morton’s Fork. Either reschedule or look like total buffoons. How do the spin turning down States? Oh, they just want it legal so they can get high. Yeah, right.
(Morton’s Fork is not the same as Morton’s Law)
What the hell is Morton’s Law??
.
.
The ignorance in the comments under the Fox story on the rescheduling request is so thick you couldn’t cut it even with a chainsaw. They even just presume that Governor Chafee is a Democrat without bothering to check. Simply amazing.

Morton’s law = “When it rains it pours”
