Iran leads the world in drug seizures
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Executive Director Yury Fedotov has said Iran ranks first in the world in illicit drug seizures, Mehr news agency reported.
Iran seizes 80 percent of the opium and 40 percent of the heroin and morphine seized in the world, Fedotov told Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar during a meeting in Tehran on Monday.
“Iran is our important partner in the war on drugs,” he said, adding, it is a “good and reliable” partner for the international community as well.
Wow. I thought we seized a lot. But apparently, Iran seizes even more? With all that seizing, where does that leave us?
Apparently, UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov missed out on an important economic lesson that those of us who enjoyed Doritos in the early 90’s learned very well.
It just doesn’t matter how much you seize. They can always make more. And it just makes it that much more valuable.
It’s no wonder to me why the Russians are such die hard prohibitionists. The entire economy of the country for generations now has been a disaster. The only functioning sector of that economy since Stalin has been the black market. It seems only logical not to want to undercut the only growth sector you have ever known. Fedotov is only being a good apparatchik.
I don’t understand what business people have in supporting the International Solidarity Movement, after reading the article!?

Is anyone verifying Iran’s seizures? Or is Iran just making up ridiculous lies about the amounts they seize? It’s not as if Iran’s government is above making up statistics, or even election results, whole-hog on an Excel spreadsheet.
they probably just keep seizing the same stuff over and over
How else to you think Iran is paying for their nuclear program (that doesn’t exist)?

Didn’t the POTUS say to Congress, “spend all you want, we’ll print more!”?
Ah well despite all the human rights violations, the relegation of women to second class citizen status, predicating laws on the basis of religion fundamentalism and the lack of air conditioning for the population these guys can’t be all bad. After all, they’re fighting the war on (some) drugs with dogged determination.
