If only it were so…
Venezuelan state TV today broadcast an excerpt from “Family Guy” as an example of how the U.S. promotes drug use. The clip features Stewie, the matricide-obsessed infant son of Peter and Lewis Lois Griffin, singing a song extolling the virtues of smoking weed.
“We can observe how [the U.S. government] promotes and incites the population to consume that drug there,” said Tarek El Aissaimi, Venezuela’s Interior Minister. “There’s no subliminal message. It’s an animated cartoon where you can observe perfectly how they promote consumption and moreover they foster the legalization of marijuana.”
Of course, this is just Venezuela’s back-handed way of getting back at the U.S. for faulting Venezuela’s efforts in our war on drugs.
It’s also possible that this post is merely an excuse for me to show this delightful clip again…

By the way, in case you were trying to place it, the song is set to the tune of “Me Ole Bam-boo” from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
If there’s one thing you can say about the U.S. government, it’s that it’s attempting to legalize marijuana through a singing cartoon baby.
Sometimes it makes sense to state the obvious…
I think by people wrongly blaming hippies for anti war protests and legalizing, stigmatizing them with ridiculous monikers and labels. From druggies to commies, just to degrade and uglify them in hopes of “protecting” their own kids. Basically from bogeyman hobgoblins, the same as their anti-dope message. What they miss is the point of being a hippie. Dropping out of society, not redistributing the wealth. Communists require capitalism as much as Fascists. Instead of Boosh hoarding it for his Fascist neocon friends, Socialists are just spreading it around quasi-equally, it is still necessary. Not bartering or growing your own clothing fuel and recreation. Chevas has one of the largest crude oil pools on the planet. He requires prohibition the same as Rockefeller and the Fascists.
Family Guy “420” – “X”
American High Society
The people of the United States want marijuana legalized.not the government. We have a bureaucratic empire whose budget is over 40 billion dollars a year that could lose 1/2 their budget if marijuana is legalized. Many of the anti-marijuana
organizations under ONDCP would lose their funding. The strongest lobby in Washington(the most $$$ in election funds) is the pharmaceutical industry,a big loser when marijuana is legalized.
In the US,we have a 1 in 3 chance of contracting some form of cancer. The pharmaceutical companies have no cancer blocking medicines. They only have treatments. We started prohibiting marijuana 80 years ago,and now our country is at an epidemic level with cancers.
In India, the citizens have 1 chance in 10 of contracting some form of cancer. Marijuana has been used as medicine, food and recreation continuously since written history began.
There are now 4 studies, showing marijuana has possible cancer blocking attributes, one paid for but never published by the ONDCP,so our government can’t tell us they don’t know that marijuana blocks cancer.
So our own government and it’s agency have decided that people continuing too contract cancer, and possibly die from it,is a risk we should all take before losing any of their funding, and election funds. Oops, the non-marijuana
smoking, using, citizens are at the ones that are at the greatest risk. Hopefully, everyone in ONDCP,and congress are in that group.
This sounds much like the “kettle calling the pot black.” Maybe we should shut down all the newspapers, radio and TV stations, ala Hugo. Of course, we are a democracy, something Venezuela is unfamiliar with and the citizens have the right to protest and vote, unlike Hugo’s people.
We set our course. We don’t leave it to “one small man” to do for us. After all, who’s wearing all the “red shirts” around here???

dmac wins the internet. I nearly spit out my drink laughing at that comment. Thats pretty much what I came here to say. Venezuela has a lot to learn if they think the US government takes the side of marijuana when it comes to drug policy.
i love family guy!
Giggity!
Venezuela does seem confused about the gov’t being behind these cartoons… maybe becasue the gov’t is so cartoonish on the subject.. or more likely they don’t have that kind of freedom down there? Have to admit cartoons have been giving the issue a lot of exposure it wouldn’t otherwise get. I loved the south park cat piss episode/parody… what did they call it again, cheesing? Oddly illegalizing cats didn’t work either. B.S. how do you upload a photo to replace the pattern that is default.

Pete, I love this clip. Thanks for sharing.
Fox and their talking heads LOVE to decry the downfall of good old American morals and virtues. Yet Fox is home to many of the programs that you’d think these yammering idiots would be against, e.g., “Married, with Children” and “Family Guy.”
That they don’t bite the hand that signs their paychecks just goes to show they are only in in for the money.
Dream on, Ray. Just keep dreamin’ on. Maybe you’ll be able to hit the next target you spot.
@JimB:) What’s really despicable is FOX and there more conservative followers never really understood what “good old American morals and virtues†were. Which is personal freedom and liberty while respecting the rights of others… our founders vision and law. Instead they confused religion with morals and values and look how it landed us here… and fucked a lot of other folks over the centuries too. They tend to be rather blind to the self evidence things that are supposed to protect us from them and other authoritarians. Thx:)
